Well, I'm on my third day of ownership after buying my new SR5 DC 4x4 and just noticed that the majority of the vehicle, including glass, unpainted plastics, headlights/tailights is covered in raised bumps that appear to be clearcoat over spray. I'd estimate that there's over 1500 of these specks, probably more. I was unable to closely observe the paint at the dealer because it was dusk and raining. I'm coming from a Frontier, which had horrible paint but nothing like this! Anybody have this issue? Truck will be used for construction observation services and is going to be absolutely trashed cosmetically within a few years but this seems unacceptable for a new Tacoma.

When I bought my 2015 it had overspray like that on the roof and hood, almost felt like sandpaper, ended up using the claybar then it was good to go.

I figure a clay bar would work. Chances are the truck will never be entirely clean again during my time of owning it aside from free washes at the dealer, but hopefully they rectify this situation. The bumps cover every square foot of the pickup, with some areas being populated every square inch.

Why not take it BACK and express your concerns with the dealer not this place -- THERE IS a warranty

I'm taking it back, I was just curious if anybody else had the issue.

The issue is likely environmental, rather than an issue with the truck itself. Most dealer stock usually sits outside for months, with the occasional wash from either rain, or a pimply faced teenager with a power washer and worn out chamois. Dirt, etc. gets baked in and embedded in the paint and other surfaces, and a clay bar usually fixes it right up...most dealers square that away prior to delivery.

It's not overspray from clearcoat. It's environmental. Take it back and never pick up a vehicle at night or in the rain.

Don’t accept dealer washes. Its free dealer installed scratches.

I honestly would try a clay bar first. If that works do it yourself. I never trust anyone with my paintjob.

Trucks are painted at the factory before the installation on any plastics so its not paint

I dont think taillights, glass, etc is anywhere near the truck when they paint or clear coat them.

I second tree sap or similar. Overspray makes the paint feel less smooth and like a very fine sandpaper not visible bumps. Either way a good wash and a clay bar will remove it no problem.
