I was just passed down an 02 Double cab gold TRD SR5 Tacoma with a lee cap. What upgrades would you recommend I do first? Also, as is everyone I’m working on a fixed budget. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Not much of a car guy, but I want to dive into all of it.

Depends on what direction you want to go.

Want to go off-roading? Sliders first. Then lift and tires. Then bumpers.

Want to go camping? Throw a tent on top, or build a platform in the back for sleeping.

    What speed? Supercharge it!

Welcome to TW! Depending on what part of the country you call home, Fluid Film ( https://amzn.to/2MKoHlh ) and/or some rubberized undercoating ( https://amzn.to/2NeGNLA ) for your frame would be a great place to start.

Thanks! Hoping to keep it for a while even though there's already 227,000 miles on it. It's still in good condition and has had the frame and some other things replaced.

I would make sure all maintenance is up to date first before I did any upgrades.

Take your time. Do it right.

After it is sound mechanically and structurally; Take your time and research options based on how you plan on using it. Think functionality and utility above all and aesthetics can come later.

I started with enhancing my suspension. Not a lift, or spacers, just better springs, larger diameter shocks w/ increased travel do wonders.

Then slightly larger set of AT tire. Not so large that you loose suspension travel or require cutting or grinding. Again, what kind of driving or adventuring are you going to be using it for?

Next, consider external protection. sliders , skid plate...

Don't have to spend a lot, look for deals on this sight or take offs from other 1st gen.

Continue to evaluate what you will use it for as you move forward.

    Have fun.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
You're really going to have to give some sort of description of what you want to do with the truck before anyone can tell you what kind of upgrades would be good for what you want to do with it.

227,000 miles... you're truck is still going to go places for quite a while. Mine has 280,000 now. Still my daily driver and still takes me into the woods on the weekend.

Other than that we need info of the direction you want it to go and what all you plan to use it for other than the obvious just driving it.

If anyone is selling a Tacoma near Pennsylvania for around $5,000 message me. I got into an accident the other day and totaled mine. Any ideas of what to do with it? The only suggestion I got is to scrap it or do an engine swap, but the engine swap is risky. The other tacoma is in bad shape.

Well I sure didn't expect that towards the bottom of the page. This is the first I've seen this thread and was going to comment on how I had a truck just like it but a 2003 silver double cab. I hope you get it all figured out and glad everyone is ok.

Thanks guys. It's hard to do much of anything right now, I'm only 21 and money is really tight.
