Yep. How much weight can be number of ply dependent too

Hmm never thought of going 235/85. 235/85 would be a taller tire but thinner. How does it feel driving thinner? Do you have an auto? How was it on the hills at freeway speeds? Any change in power or extra sluggishness?

Man I’m kinda into the look of those skinnies. If you can post front and back pictures that would be awesome!!!!

I notice it a little bit not much when going through the mountains but not on normal highways. It is an automatic as well as RWD. It is responsive but not to aggressive. These are Cooper ST Maxx. They weigh 49 pounds each which are 11 pounds more than the factory 245/75/16 Firestone Destination LE2 Tires.

32 seems low. Is that recommended or just what you’ve found to work best

What is recommended and has worked well. Keep in mind with E load the hard sidewalls ( more Air) rougher the ride. I have chalked tested them.

I've seen @Taco/Jäger 's truck in person, many times, and the stance on the super skinnies is damn cool actually. Looks quite tall in fact.

I just skipped to the end here.... how about some fallen at3's in the lighter load rating, the 265's -- 32's are only 45lbs! you will be fine. if you go skinny be sure you really like that look 1st, or you will always look at it thinking you want more.. i ran a couple sets of 255/85's and one set was terrible looking whereas the toyo's were beasts.

    Thanks for the response!

So you think with some either lighter wheels (or same weight as stock), and some 265’s I’d be alright with my little 2.7 auto slowpoke?
I think since I’m so new to this that there’s a disconnect. I keep hearing 265/75/16 will make my truck a dog. I’ve had a full camping load in the bed (probably around 500lbs) driving up the hills into northern Cali on 101 and it didn’t skip a beat. Is it the weight or the amount of rotation that’s going to hurt me in the end?

I do like the looks of skinnies but I also would prefer a 265/75/16 with let’s say a 2-3” leveling kit

I can speak from my experience having had a 2009 2.7 4cyl 4x4 reg cab.. the reg cab is of course lighter than an access cab so there is an effect there but i had a full OME lift, a leer 100r cap, steel front bumper, sliders and probably a constant extra 100 lbs of stuff for wheeling/camping in the bed. i ran dick cepek mud country tires in 265/75r16 on the stock steel wheels. i also ran some goodyear territory 235's before that. looks wise i was much happier with the wider 32's, all around performance in my opinion was better from handling to wheeling. i am a firm believer in high quality tires, the goodyears were cheap and it was obvious after going with the dick cepeks, although the goodyears were much better than stock tires. as for making your truck a dog with no power don't worry, it is what it is, there will be a difference but not so dramatic that the truck will not function like some may suggest. if you go with a lighter tire then yes less rotational mass is better for performance and fuel economy. if you don't wheel in sharp rocks all the time you will be just find going this route. tire pressure wise it is up to you what you like and feel works, there are of course reasonable limits on the low and high but you will figure that out through trial and error on your truck. don't let the tacomaworld monsters scare you!! you're truck will be fine and you will be happy with a slightly larger slightly more aggressive tire!

Looking to the above post with the cooper st maxx..... those are great tires. i ran them in 285/70r17 (2014 F150 reg cab 4x4 w/Fox 2/-0 suspension) and also in a 315/70r17(2015&2017 Jeep JK with fancy lift stuff)! fantastic tires!! the only reason i am not going with them on my brand new trd off-road is they do not have a full winter rating.. otherwise i would be on my 3rd set.

Just take your time making this decision as tires last a while ideally or become a waste of money when you hate what you have and buy more tires. Think about what you want now and what you think want to come in the future without letting this silly site sway your reality!

The pics with the skinnies has a 2.25” leveling kit in front with 1” blocks in the rear.
