I have a general question about alignment, and what, if any, possible damage can result to the steering components of my Tacoma.

My 2017 Off Road has 24K miles, all on the factory Goodyear Wrangler tires. I have noticed the front tires wearing unevenly. I'm not sure exactly what the technical wear pattern may be called. Not scalloping or cupping, it's like the tread is wearing in a "ramp" fashion, where if you run your hand in one direction you can notice the edges seem raised up, if that makes sense. It isn't extreme, I'd say between 1/16" - 1/8" at most (again, with 24K miles on the tires). I have never had an alignment done on the truck.

I am debating getting an alignment done now. However, when these tires wear out, I will replace them (I plan to get 235/85/16 Cooper ST Maxx on the OEM wheels), and will definitely have an alignment done at that time, regardless if I have one done now. Judging by the wear on these OEM tires, I estimate I have another 18 - 24 months before they are fully worn out.

My question - if I wait another 18 months without getting an alignment done, could I be causing non-trivial wear or damage to any of the steering components on my truck?

If alignment problems really only cause damage to the tires, then I am not too concerned, since I don't have any great fondness for the OEM tires on the truck now.

    Many thanks.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds

Shouldn’t cause any damage being driven as it is. Only time you could damage something is if the stuff was way out... it doesn’t take much (0 toe vs .25 toe can ruin a tire pretty quick) to cause weird tire wear, and once they’re worn like that. An alignment won’t really help anything unless your wheels off center
