What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Just curious, is it 2.5 pipes going to a 3 or 3.5 tip? And do you experience highway drone between 65 and 85?

EDIT: I see according to their site it is 2.5" pipe with a 4" tip.

Jump right in there Bud! Never be afraid to fail, the possibility of failing is all part of the learning curve. Ask/watch, learn, do. The only limitations are those that you put on yourself! There's a lot of satisfaction in doing things yourself........, and a little help from someone that has the skills, knowledge and or confidence never hurts.

What have I done today? Let's instead look at what I've tried to do recently.

Decided to put on my oem mud flaps that have been sitting in a box for months. This was prompted by my having to drive over a newly oiled patch of road last week. Let's see how that went.



Put on the left front and found that that the oem flaps don't cover the whole width of the tire, even though they're 265s. The 4Runner wheels have 15mm less offset, so that contributed a bit. Thinking of trying a set of Rek Gens.

Also tried putting on the Wet Okole seat covers that also have been sitting in a box for months.



Looks like I got the driver's side on, right? Not really. It's just temporarily on there. I have no idea what to do with this wide piece of plastic. WO instructions say that piece, generally speaking, should be flipped up and hidden under the seat cover, but this plastic piece is wider than the seat back. It's also sewn into the upholstery, and I kinda' hated to cut it off.



Last week, I took this thing to the muffler shop and asked them to install it before the muffler in an attempt to dampen some of the drone from the catback system. After a while, the muffler guy comes over and says "You find a place where it will fit, and I'll gladly put it there."



Not enough room in front of the muffler.



There were a few pluses. I did get my RAV4 mirror installed.



...and my new sun shade works perfectly.

 

A LOT of wheel weights is usually the sign of a bad tire - it happens. When they rebalanced the tire did they try spinning in on the rim (¼ - ½ turn) before the rebalance?
If the tire is new(ish) and they cannot get it to balance you should request a replacement tire at no charge siting a faulty tire. If your a re denied a new tire and are still having issues look into balance beads. I haven't used them but read lots of good reviews about them.

How hard was it to change out the mirrors? Is there instructions on how to go about this somewhere? Also, what year(s) of RAV4 fit our Tacos?

It was actually pretty easy, took a couple minutes, but I will never get used to just blindly prying on things. I'm always afraid I'm going break some stupid plastic fastener that costs $0.015 to make and costs me $10 or $15 and a trip to the dealer to replace.

I just pried out the bottom with one of those plastic mini-prybars, then pried out the top.

 

Thanks for the info, but I hate prying on things. I have THE worst luck on breaking those little tabs.

 

Gee could have used nicer words than that. Guess I was too harsh my bad

 

Easier than you think. I broke 1 of 4 tabs on the first mirror but not using it anymore anyway. Used more finesse on the 2nd mirror and no broken tabs. The tabs on the glass are the weak ones which is fine. Was good training for replacing the headlights.

No tabs on the headlights but there are some holding the corner of the bumper cover to the corner of the fender plus there are some to release that hold the fender flare to the fender. Yay big fun. Really pretty easy job.

 

Curious what type of screws you used to mount them to the composite bed. I have a yeti bottle opener too and want to mount it there but worried it won’t hold well.

 

Rivet nuts or jack nuts (similar to molly screws) are what I like to use.
Harbour Freight has a really inexpensive rivet nut tool for around $20. Handy little sucker. Rivet nuts are available in aluminum, steel, and stainless. I buy mine on Amazon.
