looking to buy a manual trans taco/tundra
    Hi guys! 1st post here

    I wanna buy a taco/tundra with

    4x4 and manual transmission

I am looking at used ones , many of them have new frames.

is there a sticky for used taco advice / sales?

wondering if the 4 cylinder is good enough to pull a small trailer sometimes. or should i fixate on the v6.

A 4 cyl will tow a small trailer, but obviously a V6 will do better without sacrificing too much fuel economy. I've owned both and I can say the 2.7 is a little tank of an engine, but the 4.0 has much better acceleration. Welcome to TW!

    yea man,

i like the v6 idea but the used market for those is much smaller and has me looking at the 4cylinders wondering if they will be satisfactory. thanks for the welcome. :)

I'm in the same boat as you. Been looking since May for the right one to pop up. There's a boatload of used trucks available, but I'm finding MT versions are few and far between...

    Thanks for the welcome y'all.

Today I go to some dealers. I would prefer to buy from an individual though. Cheers.

What do you define as a “small trailer” (weight)?
What are you used to towing with?

I personally wod never consider a 4 cyl. Because honestly if a 4 cyl works for you... you don’t need a truck lol

4 cyls are sluggish. Some people don’t mind it but I do. But I use a truck. I haul frequently very heavy so I need an engine that can keep up with me.
A 4 cyl will have a hard time maintaining highway speeds on a windy day.

I have driven an F250 my whole life until the Tacoma. Most of my towing experience has been with that truck and diesels.

I think people who have exerience towing with full size vehicles do not like to tow heavy with a Tacoma period let alone a 4 cyl.
For people who don’t have experience towing with beast trucks they feel the Tacoma is just fine.
Its the whole premise of its hard to go back to hamburger once you’ve had steak. And those who have never had steak don’t know what they are missing lol.

If you just want an open bed and occationally tow 2,000lbs up the road. 4 cyl might work. But if you want to use a truck like a truck and haul 2,000 of rock and mulch in the bed... I would not buy a 4 cyl.

I also don’t like the fact that the 4 cyls ride low and have dinky little wheels and tires. Not great for going off road at all. Sure you can upgrade those but then you might as well go 6 cyl.

    Just my thoughts.

Yeah, im going for the v6.

The smaller weight trailer would be a one axle enclosed trailer with some stuff in it. I would love to be able to afford a RAM 2500 cummins... lol but its just wicked expensive.

    Don't we all!?!

My uncle has one I have driven a bit this summer. It's a really nice truck.
I am so not a Dodge fan... but it's a really nice truck.

BTW I know the cost jumps up there but the Ford Ranger has some incredible numbers as a 4cyl with the EcoBoost. 1,800 payload and 7,500 towing.
But I'd never pay the prices they are asking. Have to wait for a used one on those.
