Yup, the original line was metal. That is probably why the leak occurred in that part.

It was recharged near the end of July and has been like new since. If it has any problems, the work is covered by a dealer warranty.

Main question is who put that all metal line on. Certainly not the factory... The factory service manual shows two refrigerant lines connecting to the compressor. One runs up and to the top of the condenser, and it has a rubber center section. The other runs low and across the front end and as it turns up to run along the inside fender to the evap core suction side, that up turn is a section of rubber hose as well.

It just can't work. Compressor bolts to block. radiator and condenser bolt to frame. Engine is free to twist independently of the frame thanks to the rubber motor mounts. Twisting / flexing a metal tube will fatigue it in absolutely no time.

That's how it was when I bought it brand new and it made it 87K miles before it broke.

I will say that I could be remembering the line incorrectly; I looked to see if I had any pictures of that part of the engine bay before the replacements, but I didn't find any.

Exact same issue on my 2014 TRD OR at 33K. Blowing slightly cool on drivers vent and warm on passengers. Going to take it in this week and hope fully it will be an easy warranty claim.

Googling issues and lookin' through here..

Same problem. Started getting haze out of drivermost side. Progressively started getting warmer and now it's just blowing outside air basically. Will update after serviced. Starting to see a trend here haha

Is it real humid where you are right now? I've seen this happen where the humidity in the air condenses when the chilled AC air hits it. I've also had the exchanger coils build up so much frost and ice from the humidity that air can't really blow over the coils... causes the effectiveness of the AC to drop almost to zero.

Yeah I was down in south Florida now Kentucky where it's been humid too but the weird thing is that after running for a while it seems to progressively cool off until it was tolerable for me (not my passenger). Now it won't even attempt to cool off. Still no chance to check pressures but I should get to it this week. Hopefully can get away with just a recharge :fingerscrossed: but then... how did it lose charge to begin with:eek:

My '10 RC 5-lug is doing the same thing. It first started (or was at least noticeable) in June 2017. My dad's mechanic recharged it and it worked fine for the rest of the summer, though it seems like the right side is never as cold as the left. In April 2018, we had an unseasonably warm day, and I noticed when during a drive to a car show in New Jersey with my girlfriend. The two left vents blow ICE COLD, the middle right vent was blowing cool to kind of cold, and the far right vent was warm. I dropped it off with my dad's mechanic again and he "balanced out" the charge while also checking the oil and adding a tracer dye. This worked for a while. I brought it to the mechanic again a couple weeks ago because the right side seemed to be blowing not as cold, but on that day it seemed to be working. Within a couple days, the heat wave was back and the A/C was acting weird. My mechanic believes there could be a leak in the ductwork or the passenger side is in more direct sunlight than the driver's side.

The problem seems to be most noticeable when it is ridiculously hot and/or humid. When I turn on the recirc, it works a lot better, but still not quite as cold as on the driver's side...

2014 Tacoma TRD Sport DCSB. Started this random ice cold air out the far left vent and got warmer towards the right side of the cabin today. Found this thread.... Poked around under my truck and on the drivers side, the 'discharge hose' from the radiator to compressor (Toyota part number 88703-04020) was leaking freon from the top metal to rubber connection. Part is ordered, will install, and have the system re-charged. Hope that was the issue, fingers crossed. Update to follow....

If anyone else is looking for this part, I found it the cheapest here:
    https://oemtoyotaparts.i-5toyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-discharge-hose-8870304020
Plus $7 shipping to me wasn't bad at all.

UPDATE: The evaporator core had a leak. The cost of replacing the evaporator core and the expansion valve was about $1,600. $955 of that was labor! Luckily, all parts (and the refrigerant) are under a 2-year warranty from the dealer.

Installed that hose and had the system recharged. Blows as cold as the day I bought her. Its amazing. I think it was doing a super slow leak so the AC got warmer and warmer gradually so I didn't notice it until I had a passenger that commented on the warm air out of the far left vent. Easy fix.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. I had the same issue in my 2012. Purchased AC pro and seemed to fix the issue. $42.00 Fix for now will report back if there are any issues

    Any word TacomaMike25?

I had/have the same issue with coldest air from the DS vent and progressively warmer left to right. Service center advised the discharge hose was the culprit. They replaced the discharge hose, recharged, and sent me on my way. A/C is colder for sure now but not where it should be temp wise and still has variance in temp from left to right... Strange.

Ask the tech to add UV dye when they recharge it; Problem ended up being the evap core in my truck. The A/C in my truck does seem a wee bit warmer on the far right, but it has definitely been a lot more consistent since I got it fixed in September 2018...

Thank you Sir! I sure hope that isn't the problem though. I'm taking it back over today to have them take a second look and since it should be blowing colder regardless. The center 2 vents have to only be putting out air at around 50deg. Not nearly enough for AZ summer.

You definitely have a leak; When an A/C system in a vehicle develops a slow leak, it generally starts blowing warm on the left side, but apparently not in Tacomas...

Mine was the absolutely worst case scenario and cost almost $1,600 to fix (still cheaper than a new truck); I only took my truck to the dealer because my mechanic kept recharging it but could not find the leak!

    :annoyed:

The service manager at the Toyota dealer took some pictures and texted them to me (this was back in September 2018)...

I appreciate the information and want to call you a liar all at the same time!!! lol

I really really don't want to invest that kind of money into my truck for that sort of repair and fear letting someone else tear that far into my dash... Terrifying actually!!!

You've definitely got a leak; It could be as simple as a gasket on one of the lines...

I made sure the tech replaced all of my coolant line seals when they replaced the discharge line. Which seal/s are you referring to?

Any of them, but since your replaced them all...

Even the ones at the compressor? What kind of condition is the condenser in?
