My first road trip in my new truck and on day 1 I took a rock to the windshield and cracked it good. Toyota says the OEM windshield is on backorder. Is aftermarket glass ok or should I wait for OEM glass (which seems pretty soft)?

I got mine installed here in SoCal for $100, aftermarket with a tint on top, had to re attach my GoPro mount.

Seems to be holding up to rock chips better than oem.

Toyota doesn't make windshields... I'd find out who their suppliers are and shoot for one of those. A glass guy told me a while back, but I forgot the names.

It's like asking if u should pay Toyota $400 for a denso pump or pay denso $100 for the same part..... Just minus any sticker/stamp/etch rlly.

Toyota charges 300 for calibration. I know...I know...

So, it would appear aftermarket glass might even be better than OEM?

in my last car, a VW, i had to replace and it was OE for $579. that's crazy, but it had the rain sensor and VW glass is good and structurally strong.

this truck only has a go pro mount, no rain sensor, and soft soft glass. I'd say you have nothing to lose by going aftermarket.

I'm going through this as well with my 2018 - There are no aftermarket ones for the 2018 with Toyota Safety Sense, so you have to get one from the dealer. When I ordered my windshield, there were 780 on back order (that was a few weeks ago). I called Toyota Customer Service and they expedited one for me, but it still took a few weeks. I am getting it installed next week.

I got an aftermarket windshield installed today. I have TSS. It was 600 out the door. Looks just like the original without the Toyota logo.

I don’t feel like typing out the entirety of my experience but a non-OEM windshield in my truck was garbage. It wasn’t not shaped correctly and leaked like a sieve. It ended up requiring two additional OEM windshields to be sealed correctly.

So far so good on mine. I’m sure there’s everything from Tijuana Body Shop glass to OEM quality glass available.

If I remember correctly, if you look at the bottom left of the windshield (driver's side), you'll see that the OEM glass is made by Pilkington. You can get replacement glass from them and it will be virtually OEM without the Toyota logo on top of the Pilkington logo.

Funny you say that...that’s what mine says. Kind of has a BMW looking logo too.
