My thoughts:

This is precisely the gamble that Dana White and the powers that be wager every time they let their darling-of-the-month run amok without consequences. Punish the hooliganism when it happens, regardless of the party, and a lot of the emotion over the disparity of unequal treatment will dissipate. Trash talk, fine, that can be handled in the ring. But smash up a bus and gravely injure innocents? That should have been an immediate ban. To put this in perspective, what would happen if the same situation occurred in the NFL? MLB? The military where violence is currency and people don't fight until the bell rings but when the enemy is dead and in little pieces? Just because the UFC is violent in the ring doesn't mean the violence is necessary outside of the ring.

Then again, millions of dollars in revenue would be at stake and we all know cash reigns king over everything else, regardless of the consequences.

 

The ONLY person Khabib is legally allowed to strike is the contracted opponent. There aren't 3 or 4 or 8 other people who are also fair game to strike. You cannot hit anyone but your opponent, in the ring, for the duration of the fight. I don't understand people who think that it's ok to hit someone because they are a co-worker of the fighter you are fighting...You may think it seems ok to do so because he pissed him off but it's not legal. He'll be charged, or lose his license to fight in Nevada and maybe his work visa for the U.S. if he gets dinged with felony assault. Jason High was suspended and fined for pushing the ref...Roy Nelson got suspended for hitting a ref...

100%. Played in a men's flag league for 13 years after college...aside from that, I hate it when MMA gets shit on like it's wrestling or a bunch of morons...not skilled athletes..so stuff like this perpetuates the stereotype.

I hear you. I feel like from the outside looking in it's so easy to make those judgments. These dudes are only human. It doesn't just switch off like that for some people. Connor was making digs at his religion, his father. That shit stings deep when you're someone like Khabib. He won that fight exactly the way he said he was and it was his turn to rub it in...

Dana said in the post fight that this fight had the most security precautions for this type of situation in UFC history....and it still happened. His exact words were "and it's not the last time". You can not stop this type of stuff. Dana said this is the first time it's gotten to this point, but it will happen again. The fight game isn't for everyone.

 

I hope noone is surprised when guys that beat the hell out of each other for a living show aggression outside of a controlled environment.
