Possibly driving from Portland, OR to Willows, CA (Thunderhill Raceway) in early December. Route will be 90+ % highway, I5 Southbound.

Has anyone done this drive? Anything I need to be aware of now, plan for now?

I'll be hauling race car spare parts (closed totes) and a spare set of wheels/tires in the bed. I'll have the OEM try-fold cover off. Estimated 250 pounds total in the bed. I'll have myself, 3 duffel bags of driver gear, helmets and a bag of my personal clothes/toiletries and a small cooler for road snacks. Estimated 320 pounds in the cab, including me (I'm not light).

I'm thinking tire pressures at 34 cold, square. Recommended maintenance up-to-date/current before the 1,000 mile round trip.

Fellow road warriors, speak to me..... link below.

That's an easy trip in a car. We drove from Vancouver to Palm Springs in late December in a 1989 Mazda 323. Shasta Siskiyou Pass is the only tough part if there is mass snow, as you have to chain up if 2wd. You'll be fine. These trucks have seen worse...
We camped in a tent on the north side of the pass, it was about 10 degrees f and so windy that the only thing holding the tent to the ground was us! So yeah, maybe a little windy? It made lighting our camp stove harder...

That’s like every weekend for me with my family in the truck and bikes etc in the back. Nothing to worry about at all from the truck standpoint. Plan out stops for food etc because you won’t want to go far from the truck with all the stuff sitting in bed.

    You are thinking too much.
I do trips like this (except add in mountains and some off highway) all the time and it's no big deal. Check the oil, make sure you have washer fluid full, fill it up with gas and start driving. I drove 3000 miles in my Tacoma... last month.

I drove 6000 miles round trip from central KY to Yellowstone NP and all over Idaho.
No problems, though I did get some laughs at the dealership since I had taken the truck in for the 5K ToyotaCare service just before I left and again for the 10K service when I got back two weeks later. haha

Have made that trip several times pulling a 12ft box trailer. fairly easy just a couple summits to make it over. The only annoying part of the trip is the 55 mph speed limit through california.

If you time the trip right and the weather is good, you’ll have an awesome view of Mt Shasta on the southbound leg. Great viewing area, you can’t miss it. Good photo op if you’re into that. Have a great trip!
