I'll definitely look into it when the time comes....any suggestions that stand out?
I definitely want something with a real at tread as opposed to a highway tire that's stamped "at".

Got the 265/75/16 duratrac . You will definitely feel the difference first time you drive it but in time you will adjust your driving style .

I have the Cooper's STT Pros for my winter tire... Contrary to what has been said about mud terrains, they are fantastic in the snow, and I never hydroplaned with them. However, they have a tendency to make the truck skid sideways at speed on dirt roads. Think cornering over washboard. The stock tires don't do that.

I'm looking at a pair of duratracs for skinnies next. That or K02s. The duratracs are studdable though so I might do that.

Are you running a lift or are you still factory? Any rubbing?

    Thanks

No lift. Still factory except for the +1 size tires. Once your driving style adjusted to it , it will be fine. I love it now. Won’t change back to stock size.

I will just leave this here for you....
    https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/a2937/hydroplaning-tires/

    Q:
Do low profile tires tend to hydroplane more than regular tires?

A: Hydroplaning is a function of tire footprint, all other things being equal, a tire with a wider footprint will tend to hydroplane more. If the low-profile tire is wider, it will indeed hydroplane more easily. If the tire is low-profile, but has the same tread width, no.

    And here:
    http://racetrackdriving.com/tech/tire-review/snow-tires-wide-vs-narrow/

    Narrow Tire Strengths
Contact patch of a narrow tire is longer (in the direction of vehicle travel) and narrower laterally. This helps the tire break through a layer of snow, slush or water when driving on highways. The longer contact patch must keep the weight of the vehicle over any given point longer, which pushes the tire down more and squeezes snow or water out better.

Rain tires used on race cars are often narrower than dry tires, for the same reason.

When driving on the street in light snow or slush, narrow tires break through the snow and water down to the pavement underneath. If the tires can engage the pavement, the vehicle gets much more grip compared to engaging snow, slush or water.

I read a few articles that said just the opposite, but I will do more research before I buy. Here is one article that I read:
    http://www.rimsandtiresmag.com/7-things-you-should-know-about-wide-vs-narrow-tire/

I'll do more reading, including the links that yall posted. I have to drive through water on roads frequently, so right now, I need the best tire that will make that safer and allow me to do some off roading. :D

I run 265-75-16 BFG KO2s. Excellent tire, especially if you actually go off-road due to the 3 ply sidewall. Now if you only drive on the street or on fire roads, a lighter tire with a 2 ply sidewall will get you better handling and better mileage.

I want to do some moderate off roading, but I won't spend a lot of time off road. Which would be better? At what point off road would a skinnier tire start to be less good than a wider one? I won't be doing any extreme off roading in a stock truck or in my only means of transportation.

I don't know how much faith I would put in the article you posted, seems like it was written by someone who English isn't their strong point.

As for driving on flooded roads, I don't think skinny/wide makes a difference. With any kind of standing water you should be driving slowly and carefully.

I want you to be safe, I am not beating a dead horse... maybe. Pick a good wet rated tire in a more or less stock size for your vehicle.
    https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/buying-maintenance/a21776425/wider-tires-more-grip/

This should end any question, however they never released these tires because - not cool:
    https://www.bridgestone.com/corporate/news/2013030502.html

The new brand of innovative technology employed in the Large & Narrow concept tire enables it to realize significantly lower levels of rolling resistance and substantially higher levels of wet grip performance.
