I cut the seatbelts out of my first 2 vehicles because they had those big metal buckles that always found their way under your ass. Still passed inspections.

I did that with my '78 F-150 4x4. my toolbox wouldn't fit behind the seat, so I unbolted the seat belts and tossed them.

A lot of stuff is... better be for the cost o_O

Vehicles in general have come a long way.
50K on the odometer meant that rusty '64 Chevy with bad ball joints was worth about $50 bucks from the neighbors backyard in '72 and then fight for a sticker..... Only to get a big White Baseball on your lower right windshield.... (MA)

Points, plugs ? Jumper cables, chokes, a screwdriver down the barrel of the carb, dry spray for the wires ?

The smell of "Ether" on a damp, snowy morning just to get the car out of the drive so you could shovel ! HA !

Then let the beast warm up for 20 minutes and hope for heat before you rolled....

A guy got up early for work in the winter....
All a thing of the past and good riddance to that !

filing the burn spot off the rotor & setting points with a matchcover. and the little gelatin capsule of grease for the distributor. changing your headlights or battery in Benny's parking lot and leaving the old ones "next to the door".

turning on the TV a few minutes earlier than the Ed Sullivan Show so it could warm up.

I remember the tv needing to warm up. When you turned it off, there was that little circle of light in the center, then it went off.

I always carried spare points and condenser, cap and rotor as well as takeoff belts and hoses, "just in case".

Going to go check my trail cameras today. Remember when you couldn't take pictures of deer unless you were close to the deer.

Remember when Japanese trucks were tinny little cheap ones you bought because you couldn't afford a REAL truck, like an F-150 or a Chevy?

I remember not being able to put $5 worth of gas in my 1970 VW, my first car, because it's wouldn't hold that much! Sunoco 200 was about $.27 a gallon, and the car had a 10.5 gallon tank.
