I replaced the INTAKE FLOW ACCELERATOR. It was easy. I already got the TRD filter last October. So I bought the Intake Flow Accelerator ($25 from ToyotaPartsDeal.com). The intake is much bigger and not blocked by the mud deflector

Below is the 20 min install.

    INTAKE FLOW ACELRTOR INSTALL

(no instructions included with the part, it’s the seat of my pants time)

    Parts list

INTAKE FLOW ACCELERATOR Part No.: PTR03-35160-AE

K&N Air Filter Refresh Kit (I had it apart, The Air Filter was black)

    Tools

12 mm Socket wrench w/ long extension

Carpet knife (I also pulled the charcoal filter)

Coffee (sorry no beer…I did this on Sunday morning at 9AM. Lines must be drawn)

    Step 1

Remove Air filter and access and pull 3 bolts to remove the Air Box.

    Step 2

Scruntch (technical term) the Intake Flow Accelerator so it looks like this. Place the Intake Flow Accelerator in the hole in the fender with the thin slot facing up.

    Step 3

Place the Air Box on the Intake Flow Accelerator and bolt it in. Replace the Filter. Cut out the charcoal filter from the upper air box as you want. Close Up shop.

I just installed it. Ill look to see if I have any massive HP gains or torque.

just returned my black hawk intake, made my throttle response terrible. had to put 3x more force on my gas pedal to make it go, I checked my throttle body for seal leaks or if it was dirty. It was great at first but over time it just felt like the truck was dragging. Shipped it back and ordered the trd air intake instead. I think the truck will like oem better and adjust according to it.

Does that filter have the K&N oil on it? That stuff coats MAF sensors...did it twice to my taco...

Did you install the TRD intake? I'm between the 71-9039 and the TRD intake. Looking at about $100 more for the Toyota product.

On my old Jetta i had a CAI and the oil would cause the MAF to fail. car still ran fine.

What is ironic is I believe the TRD intake comes with an oiled filter.
