Yes, it will hold up really well if done correctly. I have Plastidipped the bottom 1/2 of my doors/rear fender/rockers, grill and hood scoop about 5 months ago. i've since put on roughly 6k miles, and haven't had an issue with any of it at all (aside the rockers, but with wide tires, even the paint in that area was getting chipped from rocks getting tossed into it.)

Anyone have tips for "doing it right" ? I'm thinking pull wheel leave tire on, not dealing with taking tire off wheel use the index cards or some other way to mask off/keep the dip off tire. Hit the wheel with graffiti remover or similar. Hit the remaining stuff with a soda/media blaster. Rough em up with some sandpaper and spray em.

If you are going through all that effort then I wouldn't use Plasti-dip. That's just my 2 cents, but Plasti-dip is designed to be quick and easy to spray without sanding down the surface. If you're going to prep for real paint, then you might as well use real paint. Again, just my 2 cents.

I've heard a few schools of thought. Some say plastidip is more durable than "regular paint" some say less. So many choices. Maybe I'll two one way two another :)

You can skip the cards. Just give the rubber a good coating of Armour All and the plasti will peel off the rubber after a little drive.

I recently purchased an ‘08 Tacoma and the wheels are are in pretty bad shape... I was thinking about purchasing new wheels because I want them to be black to match the blacked out badges etc that I have Plasti Dipped but was wondering if I could coat these wheels with Plasti Dip to get the look I want until I find newer wheels that I like. Do you all think I would be able to achieve this without sanding down my current wheels beforehand? Here’s a picture of the two that are in the worst shape. I am worried that the Plasti Dip might not adhere well to them...

Yours like about the same as mine at bare minimum gotta get that loose stuff off. The more effort ya put in the better the final product will be.

At bare minimum I'd get in there with some kinda of graffiti/airline paint remover and a wire brush/brushes get the nooks and crannies clean. Up to you and your level of acceptable though.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I just finished them and am pleased with it’s the outcome. I believe it will serve it’s purpose in giving me the look I want until I find new wheels. Here’s some pictures of the finished product.

Did you take the bumper off first or just tape paper around it?

Do you mean the skid plate? I only installed the skid plate after I plasti dipped the bumper. But the bumper itself stayed on the truck the whole time.
