My 17 TRD Offroad double cab does not have roof rack installed. I'm thinking to put a Yakima rooftop carrier on top and looking for a place that sells the OEM rack cheap. The list price is $340 and some online dealers sell for $260 but the shipping cost another $70 so it's not cheap. Is there a online store sells for a good price?

I'm also concerned if I installed the OEM parts, the distance between the swing crossbars seems to be fixed and not adjustable. In case my rooftop box's pre-drilled holes don't fit the bars, the rack becomes useless. I also heard someone said the curved bars may cause problem when driving at high speed because the gap between the curved bars and the box's bottom. Any suggestions? I don't want to spend over $500 on a roof rack just for mounting a rooftop carrier.

I’ve got a Yakima rack on mine that I love. I went on Yakima’s site and got all the part numbers I needed for the towers and clips, then chose bars that were narrower than the side mirrors (don’t remember the length). I think I ordered it all off of Amazon or maybe Backcountry.com as well. It’s nice being able to bring the bars out farther than the roof width to carry more toys.

And excuse the super full garage... I’m in Hurricane Michael’s path... DCLB fits with a few inches to spare though!

Thanks. Looks like you are using the BaseLine towers. I wonder if there’s a Yakima roof rail system that does not use the towers and not causing potential leak.

I don’t think the towers will cause leaks. I’ve had them on for about a year now, and haven’t had any issues...

I’ve had Yakima racks on a few vehicles and none have leaked. The clips clamp on the door frame, the door seal keeps water out. Now, if you choose to mount towers into the existing roof mounts (under weather strips) I’d use plenty of sealant. I have a second gen but I wasn’t a fan of the OEM rack, due to the crossbars not being adjustable and seem flimsy. Another benefit of a Yakima, you can take it off in a few minutes when not in use.

I haven’t seen any Yakima or Thule roof racks that can be mounted directly on the factory roof mounts under the weather strips.
