Update Thursday Morning. They received the last part this morning and it should be ready to be picked up this afternoon. It was in fact the ECM. They also found several connection pins inside the transmission that were not making good contact, so they replaced the wire connectors. They did have to tear apart the transmission, so I am curious to hear if it was the main ECM or just a like a transmission sub-ECM, and where these bad contacts were located. All covered under warranty, they guy I have been dealing with is just the production manager, he often apologizes that he cannot answer my specific questions. The tech will be there when I pick it up so I'm hoping to get a more detailed explanation from him.

Other than the loaner Camry, I have been very happy with the dealership. I was out of town when this happened so I did not go to my normal dealer (I don't dislike them, but they are not my favorite). The dealer that is doing the work is about an hour from where I live, but I may switch to them anyway. Tom Wood Toyota in Zionsville Indiana, would recommend.

Final update- I got the truck back this evening. Holy smokes, it’s like a whole new truck. I don’t think I realized how bad that transmission was until it’s fixed. And further more, I’m not sure it was ever shifting into 6 gear at all. It doesn’t hunt for gears anymore, it cruises at 75-80mph at between 1500-1800 rpm and I got 21.6 mpg over the 63 mile drive home. I make that drive often, and normally get 17, maybe 18 on a good day. I think the transmission or ecu was screwed up from the start, which kinda makes me feel like a moron for not knowing, but boy am I happy now! On that drive normally, it would hunt for gears between 2000 and 2500rpm.

I wonder if they also applied the latest TSB for the gear hunting.

I’m only at 300 miles right now, but if it doesn’t stop hunting and stumbling I’ll be asking for that as well. Glad to hear everything worked out for you.
