Respectfully disagree, they are perfect for this car.

Ya'll are crazy as hell. I've owned 2 86's now. a 2013 and a 2017. That car is a blast to drive. My truck is for utility, the car is for fun. Wife loves it too.

That first sentence proves you don't know what a "sports car" is. A sports car is never measured by it's quarter mile. That's a drag car, a muscle car, etc. Sports cars are for carving corners. Historically, they have always been lower in weight and HP.

+100. The MG TC and its ilk have a bloodline that is still represented best by the Miata (mx-5). Its about the feeling, not the raw numbers, something Mazda understands.
I've never driven one, but from what I've read/heard, the 86's problem isn't how much power it has (200hp is almost as much as a fox bodied 5.0) but where it is developed.
I've had motorcycles that develop power up high in the rev range, and somehow they are never as satisfying as those that have a heavy flywheel and the torque down low.
Character counts more in a car than numbers to me. Of course having both is better, a la Jaguar E type or Datsun 240z.
Complaining about the 86's power, however, is like complaining that our Tacoma's can't tow 10'000lbs; they were never meant to.

This is the internet, you're not supposed to respectfully disagree, you're supposed to let loose a tirade of insults that you have pent up from your non-online life.;)
I like my classics era specific, but each to their own. Wheels are an easy enough change out. Also, as I get older, I somehow like skinnier tires...not sure why. Looking at this car, it looks like a Datsun 240Z and an e-type had a child.

Just to jump in on the old Celica talk... this was my first car, a 79 Celica GT. Loved that thing. Bought it with about 130K on the clock and put another 40K on it. Never had a real issue.

Hell yeah! I've owned 2 Z's (260z's, which I think are actually the best ones with very minor mods) and the current z's are an insult to the lineage.

A lot of hate on here for the 86/BRZ/FRS.. They are slow by today’s standards out of the box but it’s by far the best “drivers car” I have ever owned. It was very light feeling, sharp turning, just fun to drive like a go cart for the road. I had a 15 STI that had suspension work done and pro tuned ect and that BRZ stock gave me more confidence in a corner bone stock, and was arguably more fun to drive overall.. Sure I missed the raw power at times but how often can you truly use that on the road day to day without losing your license.. I had a few bolt on’s that really helped liven it up.. I only sold it because I bought a house and needed a truck for truck duties (plus winters are rough with RWD).. If I had the budget for a cheaper “fun” car id consider another one.. Id really love to find an old JDM..

This is a win for you actually.

Old Corvette worshippers buy them and park them in a garage and put 15k miles on them in 10 years. That is how you get a used Z06, absolute monster of a car for half the sticker price!

Understand what you're saying, it's well-balanced. My take on it is for the price it needs more "everything". About 20mm more tire all around, 50 more hp, more brakes to match. THAT would make it a riot of a car to drive.

I'm Canadian... Politeness is engrained in our DNA you F@#$ING A$$HOLE!!!! :censored: YOU! :canada:
Both are epic! However, considering we're in the custom car era, and IMO and personal preference classics and muscle cars benefit greatly with a large custom set of wheels (that suit the car) and fill in the huge wheel wells and widen the stance, thus providing a more unique and personalized looking classic. Skinny wheels and tires drive me batty, especially when guys add fender flares on their trucks... looks funny.

The mk4 supra is the only great sports car that toyota made. Regret selling mine. Surely the new supra will fail too

Agreed, not to get off topic but is Toyota that bad off where they have to keep developing new cars with other brands gear/support? What completely turns me off from the new supra is the BMW engine.. Unless I am ill informed they built the 1JZ- 2JZ. Beautiful strong engines that could handle serious abuse and now they hand it over everyone else.. I foresee the new supra as I see the new NSX.. Way overpriced and completely lost the heart and soul of where it came from..Also not selling much..

I'd much rather jump in an Mk1 MR2. Sorry, I know there are a lot of MKIV Supra fans out there. I loved its look, power, etc. But never considered it a "sports car". GT car, perhaps. I would not want to take one around a track vs other lightweight, balanced cars out there.

    That's better.
I'm across the water but looking at moving to Nanaimo soon.
It is interesting to note that the cars that are fetching the highest resale at auction and are most desirable to collectors are those that have never been stripped, modded, or repainted.
Maybe it's an age thing? I'm now firmly in my 40's...I can appreciate where the designers were coming from. In regards to skinnies...I love that squeal from skinny tires as they approach their limits of traction (especially when driving to Tofino on a very early summer morning):burnrubber:
