Agreed. I also wonder why people would even want to pay for a vehicle they don't want to drive?! Thats called a taxi.

 

I’d like to have that as an option, although I do enjoy driving. Would be nice to take a nap on a long commute though!

 

I don't imagine it'll be too long before you won't have a choice in the matter when it comes to these features in a new vehicle. Rearview cameras became required equipment this year or last if I'm not mistaken. I can see driver alerts coming next.

 

At 375K, the only repair my 1995 needed was a weld on a cracked clutch pedal mount, timing chain and wheel bearing replacements up front. I sold it before 400k. Then, I sold my 2002, that just needed a timing chain and wheel bearing replacement at 275k, only due to needing more power for towing a trailer. Dumb moves on my part!

 

You're correct and I hate it. Cameras and divers alerts are nice things...if you use them as intended, supplements and not replacements to good driving techniques, with is where the problem arises. I've seen plenty of parking lot accidents because someone thinks they ONLY have to be aware of what's on their little backup screen and they're oblivious to the front corners of their vehicle or cross traffic. I see the same thing happening with all these other drivers alerts.

It's making lazy drivers and I don't support it being mandatory. The government needs to get back to the basics and stay the hell out of so many things.

 

It'll just promote laziness instead of attentiveness. People think, "I don't need to look at the road because the vehicle has radars and lane sensors, I can just text and adjust when the vehicle tells me to!!"

TBH, Tesla has had a pretty good track record it seems with their auto pilot softwares. Only a few accidents from what I hear.

I will enjoy my base reg cab for as long as I can and then I'll buy a used 2nd gen. I'll need to get a 2nd gen soon though because they're starting to get up in mileage being nearly 4 years old.

OP, 400k miles with a lot of them off road is awesome. You mention the Michelin LTX M/S (now Defender)...are using a P rated version or LT rated? Looks like some significant off-road use, curious as to how these hold up to off-road use.

I’m considering this tire for 95% pavement, 5% towing and occasional (very mild) off-road use on my Land Cruiser. I want to avoid mileage and ride penalty of an LT-E tire if I can. Would appreciate your (and others’) opinion. Thanks

 

Congratulations I know this is a much older post I just wanted to drop a line of mine hitting 250k even though it's an auto 4x2 I'm sti surprised with these "little" trucks They've definitely been built to last unlike some of the other manufacturers adding 10 speed trannys and ect.

I love all of these high mileage threads. Congrats to the OP. My '05 Tacoma has 'only' 215k miles, and every time I read one of these threads I'm re-assured my truck has many miles to go.

My ‘08 Tacoma base truck is rapidly approaching 419,000 miles and is all original including the drivetrain. I have no intention of selling it. I would sell my wife’s 2013 Sienna with 143,000 miles if she wanted a new vehicle before I would sell my truck.

I bought this from the original owner a couple years ago. I don’t know what he had to replace while he had it. He worked for the Georgia DOT so most of the miles he put on it were highway miles. He also told me that he took it to the Toyota dealer every time it needed to be serviced. I also take it to the same dealer and I’m sure they have all the records of what was done to the truck. The previous owner gave me a stack of service records I just haven’t bothered to look at them.
Since I have had it I have replaced the gas cap and the wiper blades…both OEM. I have had oil and filter changed, flushed the brake fluid and added fresh and replaced the tires. I also replaced the air filter and cabin filter. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it anywhere.

 

I would check the Toyota owner's website, put in the VIN and see if the dealership has been entering services into the truck's service history. Just to see if they are keeping up the service history. You can add to the service history too for anything you have done to the truck but it sounds like you haven't.
