More night wheeling with the local Toyota guys. Need to change the rear drive shaft since it's got some good dents in it. Also got some rock lights from a buddy and another spare rear driveshaft. Having fun just using it and not really working on it hahah

2 night wheeling trips in 1 week lol. Quick run up rocky gap again with my dad. Got the rock lights in and new driveshaft and everything worked well. Trail is super rough right now but still fun. Just needs a good rain.

Stuck at discount tire waiting for new tires and wheels for the daily and trailer tires. Did get a ton of work done on the trailer yesterday. Got the frame and fenders sanded. Stabilizer Jack's on the rear and the 2 spare tire mounts for the front along with the main wheels cleaned and painted. Think it's coming out pretty well. Hoping to remove the deck today and maybe paint it tonight but it's super humid here with monsoon season so we will see.

The daily's new wheels and tires. Falken wildpeaks all terrain in 265/70r17. Went down in size but tires are pricey and it's the other stock size so hope it helps with my mpg and towing. Also 4 new tires for the trailer. Both long overdue.

Starting to figure out position of my shifters, did you ever do anything else to above, or is that still your same setup?

Shifters are in the same spot but I ended up cutting out the extra plastic and making a metal plate for the top. Yours will probably end up being more foward since you dont have the prerunner adapter like I do.

    Some crappy pictures.

Finished up the trailer this weekend. Think it turned out pretty good considering where it started. And all ended up costing significantly less than a new or even decent used trailer. New tires, dual spare tire mounts, new deck, rear jack stabilizers, and a little bit of paint goes a long ways. I'll put some stain on the deck to make it last and get some 1/2 weld on d rings to finish it out. Hopefully it lasts another 15 years.

Debating on selling my rtt or making a setup similar to the one pictured below. I haven't used it lately but with it cooling off that may change.

More afternoon/night wheeling. Went to logandale this time and towed the truck with the new trailer. Worked great and super happy with the setup. Truck worked great as well but really need to get building the rear axle as the narrowness kills me sometimes.

Did the usual big v notch I've done several times and this time didnt go to plan. Fell in right at the end. Was able to use the winch to pull the front away and walked away with no damage at all.

Video on Instagram of me getting out of it as well as some good 3 wheel action after wards as I didnt get setup properly for the bend.

Havent posted in a while. Got the deck of the trailer stained and a truck tool box on the front to store straps. Did a few night wheelings trips and heading out to trail hero at sand hollow hopefully Thursday. Figured out my rear axle. Plan is a ruffstuff 9 in axle with the solid axle industries full float kit. This way it's done and it's done right.

    A few pictures

I am also contemplating the solid full float kit rather than a unit hub. Whats your plan for brakes? Will you be able to retain an emergency brake?

Plan is to just get the full floater kit which comes with brakes and hopefully get ruffstuff to weld everything up if not theres a local shop with an alignment bar that'll do it for cheap if I bring it tacked for them.

Not super worried about an emergency brake since I'll still have park "P" but do plan to add a line lock just in case even if it only holds for a short while.

    https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.co...uct_Code=SA6018-6&Category_Code=SOLID-SPYNTEC

I think going with a spindle and bearing will be better in the long run, mainly if I build something else with a 9 in front so everything will use the same bearings. Plus I can probably get the bearings at an auto parts store and be cheaper to carry spares compared to buying and carrying an extra unit bearing. I doubt I'd ever break one but it's just how I am to carry spares.

Whether I do the trail gear rear axle roller or do a ruffstuff axle and solid axle industries kit it comes out to a similar price and I'd have to buy axle shafts for both. Probably spring for rcvs but plan to do equal length shafts and hopefully match the shafts lengths of tg so I can order one of their cheap long fields for a spare.

Went wheeling In sand hollow for trail hero. Blew up a u joint at the tcase and thought it was the carrier bearing going out. Drove from the back of the dunes to the parking lot qnd pulled the shaft to drive back to the hotel and found the u joint barely holding on. Swapped in my spare and a new carrier bearing and beat the truck some more the next day.

Only picture sadly. Sand hollow never fails to rain on us everytime we go though.

So tech question here. Getting ready to order my rear axle housing for the 9 in. Question is centered pinion (different length shafts) or off set pinion (same length shafts) I think the 9 in is only offset 2 in to the passenger side which isn't a lot compared to the land cruiser rear axles some guys run. Axle will be 35 spline. Rcvs (probably NOT 300m). Full float. And a zip locker. I like to carry spares and equal lengths shafts would make it easy but not sure if its worth the possible headache of vibrations and the off set pinion. So what's everyone's opinion.

Broke my first drive train related part this weekend in sand hollow when I got hoping on a little climb. ended up breaking the ujoint at the tcase (the expensive strong neapco u joint at that). But didn't break an axle shaft on the stock e locker axle. SO reality is I probably wont ever break a full float 35 spline shaft (even if I ever do get a supercharger). With that though when I do go to an atlas next I was also thinking of upgrading u joints to possibly 1350 or even 1410 so that would eliminate the u joint weak link. Front axle will probably stay 1310 u joints just so that's the weak link but will get a high pinon at some point because I was told that makes a built Toyota axle equivalent to a stock d60. (I know I should have just built a 9 in or done a 60 for the front. oh well)

I'd say as long as its 100% offset to the passenger side, run the slight offset. Equal length shafts, FF, and farther away from the gas tank is a win. Especially with a few guys having success running a higher offset with the LC axles.

    Same price?

Now if it were offset driver side, I'd say no way as it would probably be right up against the gas tank.

Decide on unit bearings or spindle and hubs?

Not to worried about the gas tank as sometime soon I'd like to go to the ford tank. Sender stops at 3/4 of a tank on the stock one it is dented so bad and needs to be replaced. Ruffstuff says their equal length shaft faceplate offsets the pinion 1 1/6" which is nothing really and why I lean to els. But I know the locker affects the length as well

I'm sure pricing will be similar for shafts. The longer the shaft the more it costs but only talking 2-3 in different so very minimal.

I'm pretty set on using a ruffstuff housing and the solid axle industries full float kit (as long as I can confirm Toyota wheels fit over their 6x5.5 hubs). Everything is similar in price housing wise. Price really changes when you get into spidertraxes unit bearing cups and unit bearings. And the wilwood brakes and hats. So it's either trail gears roller housing or ruffstuff and solid axle Industries. I've had good luck with ruffstuff and like the spindle design better so that's the plan as of now. I think maintenance and trail repairs will be easier with the spindle and bearings and cheaper. Should be able to get them anywhere compared to possibly having/wanting to carry a spare unit bearing (just who I am to carry extra crap)

Lucky you broke the drive shaft. I blew up ring and pinion hopping on the stock e locker. Have drive shaft vibes now too.

    9" is off set 2 1/8"
I am running centered pinion because i hate chasing driveline vibes as i am now. Ill limp out with a fullfloat.

I think I've decided on a centered pinion as well. For what it would cost to get an extra axle shaft I can probably get the set made out of 300m from rcv. Probably overkill but one less thing to carry and will decide when the time comes to order that lol
