I have finally gone and done it. DROPPED not propped a heavy object on the top outer edge of my tailgate and dented it plus popped off some paint. I have noticed when pulling the latch that the skin flexes quite a bit. Overall the tailgate seems even flimsier then the 2nd gens. Is there any beefed up tailgate options for the 3rd gen?

I have the Mobtown one and it's amazing. Definitely strengthens the gate.

I like that the Mobtown option is aluminum for us salt belt guys. Going to add this to the wish list.

Mobtown, it's awesome, plus it replaces the plastic lip that's useless

I'd like to get a skin eventually but haven't personally had any issues with heavy stuff on the top of the tailgate. Plastic is scratched up pretty good but I've had 8' fork extensions propped up there and those things have to be 200lbs a piece.

oops, I dropped a heavy object, not propped. Haven't tried propping anything heavy on this one but i did on my 2nd gen with no issues. I was thinking about an entire swap like the tailgates one can get for full size trucks to work with 5th wheel trailers.

Any issues with the metal reinforcing plates not working well with the opening assist? I don't care for the plastic OEM inside of the gate at all but the added weight of the plate it seems would tear up or make the opening assist completely inoperative.
