Not sure this is the proper location but I have a question as to the coating of the calipers from the factory ?

Reason being I was cleaning my wheels with a “safe on all types” meguiars wheel cleaner in the shade and for 1-2 minutes (never dried) while it cleaned the wheels it damaged the coating on the calipers and now they are streaky and dull looking. I should of just stuck with regular car wash but I had the bottle already and well live and learn I guess-but it’s still disappointing every time I see it now

This wheel cleaner is why I boycott Meguire’s products.

I used it on my stock wheels luckily and not my black TRD wheels. Stained my driveway though...

I would dilute Simple Green 1:2 with warm water and spray it on the wheels and calipers then get an old toothbrush and gently try to agitate it off.
But make sure to dilute the Simple Green. The package directions specifically tell you to dilute it but most people skip over that lol.

You will find that most wheel cleaners say that the wheels need to be cool before you use the product on them. The same goes for any painted surface the cleaner comes in contact with - such as your painted calipers. Unfortunately, many folks (you're not alone) forget how long it takes for the brakes to cool down too.

You might be able to lightly polish the surface of the calipers to reduce the dulled look if you're really anal about things. (I'd try it if it were my truck.)

I’ll try this but I think the chemical reaction effected it, at what it looks like. Let me find the pictures I took

I can’t remember if I even drove it prior or just woke up and that was the first thing I did. It’s possible I guess. Normally if I Drive is literally only 5-10 minutes 1 way. How long does it take to cool down since you brought it up

I’ll definitely try to polish and see if I get anywhere. Worst case I guess I can paint them

How long it takes to cool them down depends on a lot of variables. How hot are the brakes? What is the ambient temperature? And a few other things. I always check the temperature with my hand before cleaning. If the wheel is cool to the touch, it's ok to clean them.

I have a 17 Tacoma Sport. Until a few weeks ago I had the stock painted wheels. I was using Meguiars non-acid wheel and tire cleaner. I also noticed that you have to be careful around the calipers with this product. It works great on painted or clear coated wheels but if the calipers are even a little hot...
I recently fit TRD Pro wheels on my truck. The matte black ones that come on the 4Runner Pro. I called Meguiars to ask them if it was OK to use the non-acid on them, they said no. They would not guarantee that the non-acid wouldn't stain the finish. I use a product called:
    Optimum Car Wash[IMG]
The company who manufactures this assured me it would be safe on matte finishes. It contains no waxes or polishes. So far they have been correct. I have used the soap twice to wash the wheels and have seen no issues.

Also, I coated my wheels with Dr. Beasley's Matte Paint Coating. So far it seems to be working well. To extend the life of the coating I also have applied Dr. Beasley's Matte Wheel Seal. I cannot attest to the full effectiveness of these products as I just started using them but after a couple of washes they seem to be doing OK.
