Factory gear Tacoma TRD Off road 18.. V6 Automatic trasmision

The 2.7 auto needs higher RPMs to drive properly.

 

The 2.7 5MT has a 0.81 ratio for 5th gear. It needs the 3.90 RP to not be screaming at highway speeds.

 

They should have just put the 6MT behind both but used the 5MT reverse gear ratio in it. And 4.30 axle for all.

 

Yeah I know. But they didn't do that did they? 0.o

 

Hi there, I’m planning to regear mine but what size of tires do you have? Right now I have 33s on it and maybe later on I want to go to 35s do you think regearing 488s will be enough? Did it fix your gear hunting also if you had any? Right now, I feel like my 6th gear doesn’t even exist. Thanks.

 

I’n running 285’s which are basically 33’s. If I had to do it over i would run 529’s. If you are going 35’s then 529’s for sure. Yeah, my gear swap and the OVtune fixed the gear hunting. Go read the 488 mega thread, I put a link to it on an earlier comment.
