Yes we have rules, but no enforcement body. We had an issue in the neighborhood a few years ago and the only remedy was court with lawyers. The juice ain’t worth the squeeze.

The snowblower is more than adequate to do what I want to do, I just don’t want to start a war. We have had issues with him already and it never goes my way. He doesn’t have garbage service , he burns it. Fortunately the prevailing winds work in my favor, most of the time. Civility is being lost in this country, just turn on the TV.

Kids like this adorable one you’re raising and teaching to use power tools-I love! I do sit for some friends here, 2 daughters. Parents refuse to have anything pink or Barbie in Their home. These two are so smart, fun-always playing outdoors, camping, hiking, building things. Seeing and helping them be creative or explore is a rewarding time

    Morning all
Left the desert around 0545 and got home by 0830. I'm ready for another round of sleep.
I have tried everything and the foam pad with a thermarest are perfect for my back. I get to watch the stars and I can set it up in 5 min.

Will I get tired of it, maybe but as long as it's just me, I'm good.
    Who are you talking to?
    No

    Sorry

To me there are a couple different catagories of "camping" and there are different levels of comfort I'm willing to give up depending on the catagory. I've slept many nights in the back of a pickup when I was logging (between military stints). I'd just gotten a DUI, had no license or a street legal truck but I threw a borrowed camper shell on the back and totally bootlegged it out to the woods so I wouldn't have to spent money on gas and save as much as I could to pay fines and make the truck legal as well as spending as little time on the patrolled roads and highways. I gave up a lot of comforts doing that but I was on a fairly short term mission, but still a couple months.

I also lived in my 21' travel trailer during the week for a few years when I first started with BLM. I rented a spot on an old ranch in Brawley for a year then moved onto NAF El Centro for about 3 more years. That was much more preferable than the campershell of yester-year but you have those moments of having to get out and move around and out of that box. I went home every weekend but still had Sunday night thru Thursday there.

Now, strangely enough, I'm looking to go back smaller with a "squaredrop" build. I know what I want structurally, and it'll just be for overnight up to long weekend use. But I'm either looking to make sure I'm really committed to the design or go with something off a lot. And, what's hanging me up right now is having shore and solar power, just solarpower or no power.

But even in this little arena of small/compact campers, what they selling is pretty much crap.

    Edit:.....expensive crap

I know exactly what your saying on all accounts, and go back and forth with it. Even most of the background, I have much of the same experience one thing that keeps me coming back here. And looking for the next step to see what others have done and are planning on.

Now that I have the Ranger thinking I would be better off converting a V-nose cargo trailer to live out of. A lot cheaper than then any prefab toy hauler and better built when I am done with it. But there is the off grid challenges, and living out of a 20' long box gets old after a couple weeks let along months. Then there is a tow vehicle. :notsure:

When I went to bed the weather guessers said 20% chance of rain from 1-3 AM. Don't trust them and covered up $100 worth of half inch baltic birch plywood ready to skim my Ranger topper with that I'm building. Almost noon and it hasn't stopped snowing yet, not going to be done by next weekend when I leave for the North Shore at this rate..

    first snow 18.jpg

I'm not ready for this shit yet. Leaves are still falling by the metric shit ton don't think the trees are either.

I've thought about the converted cargo trailer too but that takes us back to the tow rig. I'm basing everything on pulling it with the Jeep. Before I bought the Jeep I knew what direction I was going with it. My wife won't camp in it, but its not as devious as that may sound. Her work shedule is all over the place and she'll be working well after I retire again. It's not that I'm leaving her out of the plan, I just know she won't go. So I know this will be for limited distances, limited time frame (1-3 nights at a time) and limited amenities....fishing, metal detecting and just getting some air. So that's why I keep coming back to the squaredrop build. So, if I want a fan I can go solar. If I want ac it's going to have to be a bit more than that.

Yup, pretty much it. But it sure is nice. It was 59 earlier and I went to the grocery store in a sweat shirt and short sleeve britches.

Sure is. The heat feels worse where you are. I'll probably be headed down there in a few weeks now that it's cooler. My daughter in Columbia is dating a major at Shaw. It must be serious because she wants us to meet him, and he just got back from deployment in Africa. We'll probably be doing a camping spot at the base.
