Have a 2018 TRD offroad doubel cab auto trans. 2 inch OME front lift. Toytec rear spacers. Leer shell 265/75/16 tires. TRB intake. MBRP exhaust( not installed yet) has anyone done the OV tune? Does it help with fuel mileage. I live in California and we have crap gas. Ive found if i set the radar cruise to 68 or 69 i can get high 17 to 18. But if i keep up with traffic in my area 75mph my mileage drops by at least1 mpg. If i go out to the I 5 around the central valley the drives are running 80 plus. My mileage is in the min to low 15 mpg range. Also the radar cruise thinks there is a slight incline it downshifts into 4th and will hang there. I had my truck in for a door lock issue and stated to them out driveability issues so i could get the flash done. The dealership states they did the flash but papper work doesnt state they did anything. I did notice the low speed shift points changed after picking up the truck. Thanks

Ok. Then Toyota tuned the vehicle for low speed driving and not real world drivers.

For good MPGs you have to stay below 2k RPM, which is unfortunate for a motor that wants to be well above that.

Seems ridiculous to me the power range come in around 3200 when your foots in the throttle. I work for a Chrysler Jeep dealership and we have the 3.6 engine which is similar to the 3.5 and it is no where as peaky as the Toyota 3.5 and our makes more power . Not bragging just stating facts. My personal opinion is They didn't tune the engine right. The torque peak is whay to high for truck. Should be around 3500. Dodge learned that lesson in 03 with the 5.7 hemi it had max torque at 4600 rpm. People complained it always was constantly downshifting especially when towing. Dodge revised the 5.7 Hemi for 09. The peak torque was now around 35to 3600. Less down shifting when towing and fuel mileage went up.

Yeah, we know.. there’s like 3 years of threads saying the exact same thing. MPGs and performance are not Toyota Tacoma traits.

Yes having the mods you have and going 75+MPH will yield poor MPG. That’s more of the common knowledge I’d hope...nothing odd about your truck performance.

I don’t think cars are engineered or advertised to have their sweet sport MPG wise at 75+MPH:boink:

Well the max speed on I-5 is 70 and in most places in CA it’s 65. So maybe try driving the speed limit instead of illegally pushing the truck beyond what it was engineered for.
