Has anyone tried to put a small (hard sided) truck camper on a short bed Tacoma?

I've seen these and swear that if I didn't have so much wrapped up in my canopy & accessories, I would get one....they are roomy and well built - look GREAT on a Tacoma!!

The short beds are 5'1" long inside, so unless you are shorter than that, you'll have the tailgate down. You may get away with trying to sleep diagonal if you build a platform to be on top or higher than the wheel wells inside.

Those pop-ups are very nice. Weight gets closer to payload capacity. Plus, there will be gear and stuff to bring. I'm wondering about general performance and mileage with one of those?

The AT Habitat @jbrandt mentioned only weighs about 350 pounds.

    Pic of mine :)

The AT Summit might be a good in between, since it has a hard top at least (vs Habitat's all fabric tent).

    Not my pic.

    Thanks for all the comments!

The AT Habitat is super cool.

    I should have clarified.

My goal is to do ski area tour winter camping. 2 important advantages to hard sides : 1- warmth 2- stealth (if not in a campsite, better for no one to know that someone is inside camping)

The FWC is prolly the best you'll find for that on the shortbed tacoma, but it's still got the soft sides and you have to pop it up to sleep in. Tons of awesome campershell builds with a bed platform that are super stealth... but yeah, shortbed really cuts your options down.
