My first Tacoma was a 1st Gen white double cab. That truck ran like champ with nearly 350,000 miles. It was time to retire her and go with a new build. So I went with a 2018 Silver double cab SR5 4x4. It'll be a slow build but, I wanna do it right and not rush into a style or part I'm not a fan of. I'm open to any tips or tricks you may have. Personal opinions are welcome!

    Current Ideas
    - 17inch wheels (Went with RRW)
    - off-road tires (Nitto Terra-Grapplers)
    - 30in Light Bar in Front Bumper (Thinking Cali-Raised)
    - Max Trax
    - Onboard Air

That's all I'm planning for now. Just a basic weekend warrior rig.

On board air goes hand in hand with a rear locker :)

Haven’t posted in awhile! I have completed my sleeper setup in the bed and gone on a few trips. With the short bed I see how it could be bothersome for taller people but I don’t mind my feet possibly hanging off the end. Here are a few pics of the platform setup and of some of the trips I’ve taken. (Big Bear, CA & Carpinteria State Beach)

I like that tent, who makes it? I haven't really done any research on them... We may look into doing this type of setup as I'm not wanting to run a full time in the bed "overhead tent" as I use my truck for hauling materials frequently.
What's going on with the black carpeted "plywood?" sheets on top of the foam? Are you sleeping on those or on the foam underneath?

I didn’t want to run a bed rack/cage for the same reasons. The tent is made by Rightline Gear, I will attach a link below. I lucked out and got a “used - like new” tent off Amazon for like $100. Steal, right? The platform is simple plywood that I wrapped in what Lowe’s calls “outdoor rug”. It lays on top of some 2x6s that rest in the little cutouts in the bed. I have a full sized air mattress and the foam padding you can see in the pictures above, that I rotate out depending on the trip. The set up is perfect for me. I’m about 5’10 so my feet do hang off when using the pad but I don’t mind it. When using an air mattress it hangs over a bit but again I don’t mind it.

I have the same tent for my long bed. Love it. I still need to build a platform like you have though.

The sleeping platform is way easy to make and take 15minutes to make. I had Lowe’s cut the plywood and I just stapled the rug on it. No time at all and cost like $40. My build is becoming the functional budget build haha

Hated the stock headlights and fog lights so I have some new lighting coming in the week!
