    First firewood expedition of the year was cut short due to a faulty weather report. It was supposed to be cool and windy today, and instead it was warm, dead calm, and a billion gnats. Barely cut and loaded 1/4 cord into my truck before we just couldn't stand the bugs in our nose anymore. It was a good test, though, of my new "Wood Burro" prototype with handle twist engagement disc brakes.

    Thought I would check in to this thread. Installed a wood stove 2 years ago after the first winter in my new house had an electric bill over $400 monthly for the winter to keep the house around 68. Hoping to finish the wall behind the stove this fall, its been a slow process lol. But I'm certainly ready for cooler weather and to crank up the stove. Haven't really even thought about firewood yet since its been so hot and humid here this year. Normally in 70's by this time of year and its almost 90 today :annoyed:. Sadly, I have to buy firewood of whoever I can find selling it. I don't have the time or equipment to cut my own yet.

    He's not actively logging it , he uses blow downs for firewood and milling and he has a ton of those

    He just got it so he hasn't actually started selling firewood yet , he's just done a 1/2 dozen cords or so for himself to figure out how to use it . Beyond selling firewood from his property he's also going to offer a service where he will bring it to new lots under development and cut up non-merchantable logs into firewood for people

    How bad was the dust burn-off? Seems like no matter how I try to clean mine off before I fire it up, I always miss a spot and it smells terrible for a few minutes when it first gets up to temp :laugh:

    It was noticeable, but not as overpowering as in years past. I always try to do the first burn when the wife isn't home so that she doesn't complain about it.

    Definitely. The first burn after an application of stove black is pretty bad too, though. Whenever I redo the cast iron bits on mine I have to remember to do a burn-off with all of the windows open and the fans on max.
