33s - Is trimming same w/ and w/out lift if offroading?

So if you want the ability for full articulation does it matter whether you're lifted or not for the amount of trimming needed for 33" tires?

I’d say it should be the same either way- lifted or not. When your truck is just sitting there the suspension is static but once you start driving, hitting bumps or dips the tire will travel up into the wheel well as if it were stock height. Only difference is 1/2 of the tire diameter that’s bigger than stock will travel further up into the wheel well. Don’t know if the last part makes sense to you or not. Some suspension kits extend bumps to prevent the additional uptravel.

Depends on the lift. If the lift limits up travel (like a spacer), then there is a potential for larger tires without trimming. But obviously that depends on if the lift limit hits before the wheel hits.

But contrary to popular TW belief, a quality lift (ie one that doesn’t limit up travel) will NOT let you run any larger tires than stock. It will just let you use a little bit more travel before it hits, but it’ll still hit/rub in both cases.

Thanks, I was starting to think I was missing something since so many threads ask about tire size relative to a specific lift.

When I get my 33s in, I'll go ahead and install them and trim instead of waiting for a lift.

That's what I did. Wish I would have gone right to 35's though. I will go to 35's someday, just hard to justify as I only have 15k on my 33's.

I might do 35s one day in the far future, but will regear before I make that jump.

Heck I'll probably regear soon just for the 33s.
