got small problem, hoping for some ideas as solution. Need to change out alternator on 2002 Taco 6 cyl.
I am having trouble unplugging the alternator.
While trying to grab it w pliers the brittle plastic is crumbling. I should have recognized trouble when I first tried it clean off the gunk to see the connection and that T shaped piece just fell off. So I guess I need to replace the connector and maybe the wires? I do not have a clue on how to proceed.
I still haven’t gotten the plug undone- not enough room for my chubby fingers, so I need to use a tool.

    Thanks for any help.

Are you sure that is not the problem (bad connection at the alt.)?
Otherwise I would just cut the wires and put a new connector on with the alt.

I’m not well rehearsed on how to do that- could you walk me through it please? It is definitely the alt.
Where could I get the connector?

I usually have this issue with the pigtails for the coils. The little clip seems to break off. Zip ties work good too

Ok, I checked out my pigtail options due to a cash flow problem and a Huge vet bill- I found shopping around a wise plan.
    Thanks,

Is butt connectors recommended for this repair? Or solder and tape?

Oh boy help! I’m still trying to get this alternator plug thing fixed. I got a pigtail, I practiced stripping and splicing wires. I go to do this thing and find that the pigtail is aluminum wire but the plug I just cut off is copper wire. What do I do?

I find it hard to believe that anybody would supply aluminum wire for automotive use. More than likely, if it's silver looking, it's tinned copper wire.

You can use heat shrink tubing after soldering, or even heat shrink butt connectors. Not too critical, just really don’t want it coming apart or getting wet.

And the good heat shrink has glue on the inside that seals it. Believe it or not, Harbor Freight actually has this type of heat shrink. Just remember to slip it over the wire BEFORE you solder the wire. I've made that mistake before when I was in a rush.
