Hi everyone been a long time lurker and finally joined TW. The first mod of my new 1 week old Tacoma is to get rid if those ugly chrome bumper caps. Cheapest route I found was to vinyl wrap them with 3m 1080 vinyl wrap. I have some more goods coming soon and will share once installed.

I wish I could find some vinyl that color matched quicksand.

looks good. Was it hard to wrap it around corners and curves?

You'll be surprised, 3M has tons of color. I'm pretty sure if you call them up they can almost match the quicksand color.

It wasn't too bad, just use good vinyl and you can stretch it pretty good when its heated up to get the curves and corners. Make sure your handy hair dryer is next to you.

Looks good. I have been wanting to get mine painted body match but wrapping it may be a cheaper option.

hmm....I wonder how durable this vinyl wrap is? rock chips or discoloration would concern me.

Just don't get the cheap vinyl, I always use 3M products and they tend to hold up. Lots of people wrap their whole car with it for years and still looks like the day the wrapped it.

This looks great! Is there any risk of the vinyl damaging the chrome/paint in a long term scenario? How does it hold up to direct sunlight and high temps?

Not at all if you use quality vinyl, my brother wrapped his M3 and had it on for years. When he got bored he just peeled it off with very little sticky residue that comes off with goo be gone and the paint was like the day he wrapped it.

Looks like you should get a metal bumper.

The factory “bumper” is softer than a baby’s bottom.

    You’ll find out.

Great job, Learning vinyl has been on my list. I’m not into color matching, but chrome is horrid.

That looks real good I almost HATE chrome -- spent several years doing show cars --- and some of them had Nickel plate instead of Chrome.

Do you have a link by chance? Can’t seem to find the right colour. Also wondering if you can do the front “bumper” piece that sticks out on the front?
