The Group 34 plastic spacer that people sell online is still about 1/2" too short for the stock Group 24F battery tie-down. Even with that spacer installed, you'll have to come up with something additional, like a chunk of cutting board.

Good to know. Was hoping an additional plus additional riser wouldn't be necessary.
I wonder about running a die down the battery ties downs another inch?

It seems though that the Odyssey 34R-PC1500T would be a good choice to replace the factory battery vs the equivalent Optima Red or Yellow top. I have been reading that the Optima batteries are not of the same quality anymore.

I'll second the Northstar AGM 24F. I live in an area where temps get to -67°F for over a month at a time. I'll let you know how it holds up.

Are you talking about the "Black Spacer for Group 34 to Group 24 Part Number 2220-1251" made by Odyssey?

Yep, that's the exact part number I ordered for an Optima Group 34. Now that I think about it, I seem to recall the Optima is already a bit shorter than a standard group 34. Maybe that explains it...

Not sure where the idea that even with the Odyssey spacer that the 34R comes up short, needing more filler is coming from. The fact is it's a bit taller than the OEM battery... at least in my truck but still fits just fine.

Glad to help. I was looking to replace my battery and was pretty set on the Odyssey 34R-PC1500 as my choice. Since I can fabricate pretty much anything I wasn't too concerned if there were little adjustments needed but felt things would fit just fine after looking at dimensions. Sure enough it literally took me 10 minutes to pull, plug & play including cleaning up the battery tray, hold down and coating the negative connection. If somebody were so inclined they could easily run a die do the threaded side of the hold down and forgo the spacer.

I just got back from a month long vacation and my odyssey 34-pc1500 ran completely dead where to i can't even trickle charge it. ive jumped it once and let the truck run for 15 minutes and as soon as i shut it off it was completely dead! the battery is less than a year old too. why would this happen? i checked and no lights were left on. the only thing i can think is my snapshot device or my aftermarket security camera but only records when there is a movement and it was in my garage. any ideas? sucks that my $250 battery shit the bed so soon... it was also an Amazon purchase so they will not give a refund.

That sucks. I'd write the manufacturer. Some things I just won't purchase online, this seems like one of them. I had s duralast battery go out super early, but fortunately it was easy to swap locally. Hopefully they'll take care of you.

I would be with the 27F crowd, and a new tray that you may find in a wrecking yard or aftermarket for a reasonable price.

I do love the AGM battery platform, its awesome!
But there are caveats such as not only is the price high, but the biggest drawback I see is that they're more designed for slow (amp) long rate of charging, as opposed to the fast high charge rate that a 130A Alt is capable of.
The tried and true standard cell may still be better for most folk IMO.

    Cheers!
