It got a little chilly by Southeast Texas standards....smoked/instant pot beef bourguignon. Pretty tasty. Sauce needed to be more gravy-like.

Somebody at work had curry today for lunch so got me on a Thai/curry kick. Decided it was too warm for a pot of chicken or lamb curry so decided on a Satay chicken type dish instead. 4 thighs, quick marinade of soy/worcestershire/lime juice/chopped lemon grass/onion/garlic/vinegar/chipotle powder/sesame oil/chicken stock/turmeric/all spice (looking back it looks like a lot of ingredients but peeling & chopping the garlic took more time than assembling the rest) in a vacuum sealed bag then kebab it over the baby Weber. Didn't get any 'done' pics but they were tasty!

This thread has been a catalyst to start me on the road to learn how to cook.

I sold my house and live part-time in the US and part-time in Thailand now.

Until I find a new house in the US, I am Living with a long time female friend and she is a super cook and she tastes my food when I cook and coaches me a little.

My first dish = this is a about a Kilo of salmon cooking in olive oil and honey with lots of black pepper. This 14" pan did a good job for me too.

It turned out amazingly tasty .... and after dinner I had salmon sandwiches on cinnamon toasted buns for a few days.

PS ... Any and all cooking tips are appreciated as I am a novice :)

Man I love shepherds pie. I do a few variations of it, one which is the traditional one, another using Guinness and third is my favorite and the furthest from traditional. My gramps used to make it growing up and he taught me, was one we made for hunting. It's ground beef, onion, crushed garlic, green beans, condensed tomato soup, mashed taters and cheese.

I use ground lamb and damn is it good!

I’ve learned the key is developing a good crust on the taters.

I found one on the interwebs that I am not sure I will try again. It was a basic recipe AP flour, sugar, water, yeast, salt, baking soda. I think next time I will look for one that includes powdered milk which I think may be more authentic.

Just a little trivia (or useless information); when it is made with lamb, it is called Shepherds pie, and when it is made with other meat it is Cottage pie. Although, in my house we typically make it with beef but call it Shepherds pie.

Same here, I usually don't do much with lamb as the wife isn't fond of the taste, I used to cook a lot of lamb before her though. Nothing like a nice rack of lamb. :)

Pre-dawn breakfast attempt for wife......Apple Dutch Baby.

I put the apples on too early....while the skillet was pre-heating in the oven....and cooked them the entire time the crust was cooking. Wound up with apple sauce vs softened apples.

    My excuse.....coffee wasn't yet consumed.
