Code was reading EGR valve flow insufficient, so I had it replaced with an after market one. Then it started throwing a code for the VSV valve. Running is running poorly, no take off at all. Gas mileage is terrible. I read something about replacing the temp sensor .. cheap and easy?

Anyone had any issues like this .. and know of fixes? Mileage on mine is 240k+ and I did read this is a common problem with these years.

You've got yourself a pickle of a issue. I actually just fixed my EGR issues this week finally after wrestling with it for a good 1-2 months. I'll just list the things I did first.

    Code was P0401 EGR
    1. Installed a new EGR Valve - Code came back still
    2. Installed new PCV valve and grommet - Code came back on again. This time though after installing the PCV/EGR Valve the truck drove noticeably worse, and had very little acceleration while chugging gas. It seems fixing those components made the problem of my EGR Modulator (also called EGR Valve Assembly) more apparent to the point that when I blew into the bottom hose of it - it no longer held even a small amount of vacuum.
    3. Installed a new EGR Modulator - finally code turned off.

Now my solution may not be the same for you, and last thing we want is to keep throwing new parts. So, first what are the codes your getting so we know for sure where to start.

Also recommend watching this video as it helped me a lot in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and fixing my issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOSFmKY15SU&t=449s&list=FL_P0MaGoE4NflG7pXPISaKA&index=2
I'd recommend especially checking out 4mins in where he talks about the VSV since you mentioned your truck was shooting out codes for it.

Thanks for all the info! I can't recall if the code was P0401 EGR or P0402 EGR. I do have someone currently looking at my truck with Toyota knowledge. He messaged me last night saying he believes he's pin pointed the problem to the EGR modulator. Everything you stated above sounds very similar with my current issues. I am going to share this with him.

****UPDATE! 03/05/2018 - I found someone who took the time to research the situation and used a computer to diagnose .. it turned out to be a solenoid. He replaced the EGR solenoid and cleaned the entire EGR flow system .. it's running great again! Check engine light has been off since repairs (about 3 weeks ago).

Thanks for updating us, and I'm glad it worked out. Haha good that it was just the solenoid and you found someone to mull it all out proper.
