 Modify something! Thats what mine is. A Traxxas TRX4 with a Original Release (1985-1992) Toyota Bruiser Hilux body on it. the wheelbase was shortened to fit the body, and the posts were removed and converted to magnets. still not perfect, wish it sat a little lower, but then I would have to go through the body, and I dont want to cut into it that much.. yet. So Its possible! definitely a fun project.

    So...
I decided to convert my old RC10GT's to electric. It started with my own version of an Ebay motor mount that bolts up to the side of the transmission.
    Ebay Version
    [IMG]
    My Version
    [IMG]
    Installed
    [IMG]

Then found somewhere that you can modify a B4 motor mount to work by drilling new holes and shimming it out with nylon spacers.

Bought a couple GoolRC brushless combos on Amazon, and they worked pretty good. Then got a Castle SW3 5700kv combo.

So I was trying to get both chassis setup with brushless motors, but kept breaking stuff and having to cannibalize one to get the other running.

Eventually broke a chassis by careening off of a retaining wall. Picked up a GT Plus rolling chassis which was much easier to mount a battery to. Finally had two chassis running good. One for on-road, the other for off.

Clipped a Granite curb with the on-road one which was the last original black tub chassis. Picked up another GT Plus roller.

Next I picked up 17mm conversion hubs for each chassis. One AKA and one Hot Racing. Neither are making them anymore. This allowed me to throw on 1/8 buggy wheels that come in many types and can be had petty cheap. also easy to rotate for even wear.

    As they sit today:

    On-Road. Sitting on Duratrax Banditos.

Off Road. Cheap amazon buggy tires for off road.

I also received an ECX Ruckus from a someone who scooped at from a tag sale for me for $10. Stock brushed model. I swapped it to brushless same day. swapped it to 17mm hex and added 1/8 truggy tires. That chewed up driveshafts pretty bad. So I swapped in HotRacing steel driveshafts and steel tranny gears. Havnt had time to really shake it down since then.
So I tried putting TBone Racing Skis on the Ruckus last winter with some buggy paddle tires, But the paddles were too narrow to be effective, she just sank. Then I broke a ski!

So I picked up a used E-MAXX with the intention of getting some paddles for it. It came with a Castle 1515 2200kv and SW8 ESC. I'll update...

Probably been asked a bunch (I couldn't find it in the 785 pages)

What is a good RTR crawler, something that looks like a truck or SUV? I think something like this would be fun to get into with my son.

Price point and parts availability look at the ECX lineup. 1/24, 1/12, and 1/10 scale. Most all hobby shops have spares as well.

The Traxxas TRX4 if you have the money and plan on staying in the hobby a while.
