Sometimes, rarely, when I come to a stop I'll feel a slight jolt forward like if someone lightly hit the truck from behind. I have a a 2018 TRD-OR manual transmission. I've been trying to characterize specifically when this happens. I think it happens if I stop while in 2nd gear, then when stopped with the clutch and brake pedal depressed, I shift into first. Does this happen to anyone else?

I hadn't heard of this with the manuals, but I know it has been a long time complain in previous generations. My 4runner even had it. I think it might have been u-joints or something? Odd to experience it on a new truck though.

In the higher gears (5th or 6th), do you feel or hear anything when getting on and off the gas on a highway? I had a small clunk that was noticeable then when the Taco had about 500mi or so on it. I found the U bolts were loose. A quick torquing solved. They've been tight since.

I've had it happen a few times, but I don't know what causes it. I looked for the obvious stuff like loose spare wheel, loose gas tank straps etc. Nope.

My U-bolts are tight, so it isn't that in my case. I've wondered if it has something to do with axle wrap and perhaps the driveshaft slip yoke binding. That's a spitball.

    Can't say I've noticed this.

I can probably count on one hand how many times I've felt it. But it has only been recently. I had to take it into the dealer today so I told them about what's going on and asked them to make sure and check the fluids are full and to torque the bolts. Hopefully that would solve the problem.

I have had it happen a couple of times with my auto. Never could find the problem.

On the ATs, this is said to be a symptom of low ATF?

I noticed that my trucks exhaust brake cuts off around 1k rpm when coming to a stop. I do feel a slight “jolt” when it does so.

Interesting. What is the exhaust brake?

This is in relation to DFCO mentioned in the MT thread. In fuel injected cars / trucks, the injections completely shut off if you are coasting for more than a few seconds. This is why your instantaneous MPGs peg out. Although, once the engine slows through about 1,400rpm, the injectors will turn back on. On the Taco, this can be felt as a lurch. My personal feeling on this is that I saw the minimum throttle plate angle is around 17%, which is a pretty large angle for idle.

Could be the slip yolk binding. Might need grease. Happens all the time on my moms land cruiser. It feels like a small tap as soon as the wheels stop. When it gets worse, it happens when you take off too.
