Aluminum Nerf Bar recommendations?

Hi all,

Joined the Tacoma world this week after finally accepting that my faithful Ford Ranger was just too cramped to haul the kids around in. I bought a 2017 double cab and am very happy with it so far! Who knew that they put CD players in trucks these days?

I'm looking for a set of nerf bars I can put on that will make it easier for the aforementioned kids (and their mother, on date night) to get in and out of the truck. Because I'm in New England, I'd like something aluminum so I don't have to worry about corrosion. I'm ruling out the OEM Predator tube steps because I tend to bang my shins on any trailer hitch within 15', and I feel like those little steps sticking off the bar are an invitation to do that every time I wash the truck. I like the look of the Lund 5" ovals, but they're steel.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

 

I'd get sliders with a top plate, but if you really just want them for steps these automatic retractable ones I saw the other day are kind of cool.

Steel with good paint will last longer than the body of the truck, especially if you aren't offroading it. I'll build you a set!

 

My experience was different. The OEM running boards on my Ranger rusted through, but the body still looks brand new. It looks like the salt and water sitting in the grooves on the top eventually ate through them.

You can also look through Craigslist for OEM take offs. 2nd gen Tacoma running boards/steps will also fit (just make sure to match up cabs and bed length).

 

black horse makes some nice looking ones and I have had them on my trucks with no issues and they are not that expensive either.
