Please forgive the fact this isn’t directly Tacoma related. I’m the guy that just posted the 8400 install thread.

A few years ago I installed an AVH-X4700BS head unit in my daughters car. Had some Bluetooth connectivity issues so last night I installed the latest Pioneer firmware.

New problem now...Before I updated the firmware the AVH-4700 would play Pandora from the included Pioneer app over a Bluetooth connection - not hardwired. Now, the Pandora icon is greyed-out and Pandora only works through the Bluetooth Audio icon. All the normal functionality doesn’t work.

Since it’s a 3-4 year old system I have little hope for Pioneer tech support.

Anyone seen this before? Suggestions? I restarted the phone, ‘forgot’ the Bluetooth connection and rebuilt it...nothing.

    Help...

I've got a Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS HU so this may not work for you. This is what my manual says:

    Setting the Pandora connect mode

Note: This function is not available when Device connection is set to iPhone via Bluetooth.

    1. Press the home button to switch to the home display.
    2. Touch the system key to open the system menu.
    3. Touch Pandora Connection repeatedly until the desired setting appears on the screen.

iPhone: An iPhone is connected using an actual cable.

I should’ve mentioned the Pandora app works perfectly through a hardwired connection - just not over Bluetooth. Before the firmware flash, it did.

I upgraded it and it has less functionality.

This is a perfect question for pioneers tech support, especially if the firmware update is recent. You're way out of warranty, but that doesn't mean they won't be able to give you any tech support.

Tech support was beyond worthless. Might as well have asked a three year old. I know more about neurosurgery than they knew about supporting a three year old product. Sadly, just the world we live in.

However....I solved my own problem. Just on a hunch I pushed the reset button and then removed power from the unit. Unplugged the power cable from the back. Left it powered down a few minutes and then set everything back up from scratch. It asked me if I wanted Pandora over Bluetooth or USB (which I had done before) and viola! It worked.

Sometimes you just have to be tenacious.
