Hi, I'm fairly new to the forms, been searching through and unfortunately still have not found the answer I was looking for. Recently did a transmission fluid change on my 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport V6 4.0L. Had a buddy help me at his shop and we used IDEMITSU TLS-LV fluid for the change. Since then I've been experiencing weird issues with my transmission and it's shifting. For the most part it's still relatively smooth, however it seems to downshift irregularly. If I am accelerating and revving between 2.5-3 Rpm it will not release even after letting off the gas. The other issue that has been occurring is that I will be heading down hill and while I'm braking it will shift from 1.5Rpm up to around 3 again. I'm wondering if this is due to the fluid we put in or possibly another issue. If anyone has experienced this before or possibly has an idea of what could be the cause please let me know.

    Cheers IMG_20181001_223328.jpg IMG_20181001_223328.jpg

Hmm okay that's good to know I didn't get the wrong fluid in there. I didn't think I did but wanted to double check at least. As for the levels it should be accurate, we double-checked last night and it's just barely dripping out of the fill level plug.

So at this point I don't think it's necessarily the fluids being wrong just really don't know why it all the sudden started acting the way it is

There is info missing here. You need to tell us how much fluid you put back into it. As most Tacomas which have been filled properly I have found is about roughly 3 quarts out of the pan. Is this how much you put back in?

Did you check fluid level at temp (97-110F) on a level surface or did you just check it cold? That would make a difference. Did you hook up a scanner to see if it's throwing any pending CELs?

Was the truck in temp check mode when the fluid came out the check hole?

So update on this after a long ass time. I figured out the issue.

Long story sort. I trusted my buddy who said he knew what he was doing when I shouldn't have.

So when he did the swap, we never messured the fluiding that came out. Nor compensated for the thermal expansion since the engine and transmission were at operating temperatures when the swap was done. I took him as his word that he said he knew what he was doing. Despite my gut telling me something was off.

Turns out because he did the swap with out measuring the amount we took out, at the same temperature, and putting that amount back in. The transmission was a litre low on fluid.

Had to bring it to the dealership to have them check it out.

Still runs okay, just will probably not get the normal amount of miles from it that you normally would.

    A liter (just over 1 qt./U.S ) isn’t good.
But I wouldn’t let it worry me too much.
If there was substantial damage, you’d know it.
I bet you still get 250k out of it if you continue regular maintenance.

Only thing I'd add is: next time you change the fluid I'd recommend using the oem Toyota WS fluid.
