Picked up mine for a lot cheaper last year. But...that was lucky. Are they worth it? With how many times I have used mine I definitely think they are worth it to have.

I think they are worth it, I just wished they had one for the passenger side also. I would use that one even more then the driver side.

I think they fit 2nd gen too. Don’t remember 100% for sure though.

Has anyone found these steps that useful and use them routinely?

It definitely makes entry easier unless you’re tall/lithe enough to just stick a foot on the tailgate and step up.

My wife uses mine every time she has to get in.

I’ve used it when I have stuff sitting on the tailgate and I have to squeeze through a gap to get into the camper. Putting knee on tailgate to climb in requires more space.

I bought one second-hand after having to crawl in/out of the bed several times. I probably use it at least once a week. I had considered the hitch-step, but every time I need to get in the bed, the tailgate is down... a hitch-step would be useless in this case. Like others, I probably would have preferred a passenger side version, but it’s just the factory/Amp Research on the Left.
Recommended accessory if you are in and out of the bed and find the height a bit more than you like.

Yup, use mine all the time. Of course I’m old and fat so it’s just about necessary for me to climb up into the bed.

Does anyone know if the dealer will install a bedstep you purchase somewhere else?

I am sure the dealer would be more than happy to take your money - but this is an extremely easy install, you just need a socket driver and extension.

Yes, they will happily charge you to do anything you request. But, as @MrMccrackin has said.... it's just two bolts that you take out and put back in through the step mount bracket. I will admit that they are long, fine thread bolts... so ratchet, not wrench... You could get any auto shop that has air tools to do this, probably even an oil change place.

Just installed one. I have a lift and back injury....believe me this helps.

The two OE on bolts on frame are 17mm, and I needed a breaker bar to loosen.

When installing, use of of socket and extension to hand thread was necessary.

Also I recommend bolting to vehicle last.

In the past I’ve seen them go mostly for $140-180, but they don’t really pop up that often. I was very lucky to find one for $120 shipped.
