    i getting ready to do my first oil change, is 5w30 okay or do i need 5w20?
    also im going to go pick up a k&n filter, anyone know the filter type i need?

    I'd say 5w-30 is fine but it would also help to know the year of your truck.

    When in doubt check your owner's manual. I think on some of the later (08-10 ??) 2nd gen tacos that a different weight is specified for the same engine model (2tr-fe).

    don't buy a fram filter, they are junk. Not sure if it was suggested already but did you try checking the owners manual?

    I prefer Wix, Mobil 1, K&N, Napa Gold (Wix), Toyota OEM, or Purolator. There are many quality filters out there. You probably need to spend between 5 and 10 bucks to get a good one.

    Use whatever grade is stamped on the oil filler cap. If it says 5w20 and you can't find any, 5w30 will most likely be OK for one oil change interval. Read the manual.

    You will be fine if you have already bought 5W-30. The early 2nd Gen Tacoma's actually spec'd it before they went to 5W-20 for CAFE reasons.

    so im about to do my first oil change too. but i just bought this truck with 237k. runs like a top. im going to add the lucas oil stabilizer, but the guy at advance told me to run 10w 30 instead of the 5w. with the oil stabilizer is this going to be too heavy or what , i live on the coast and its super hot right now, also driving about 100+ miles a day? what do i do im changing it in the am.
