Had the sun visor break off the same place. I took it to the same dealer I bought my 17 Tacoma, and told them it was way too early for things to be breaking, I’m only 5800miles! They fixed it immediately, and I didn’t have to pay a single penny.

Mine has fallen one or two times. Mostly when pivoting to cover the side window. Decided to pull it down & have a look. Like some have mentioned earlier in here, I was hoping it was just a matter of pushing it up enough to "clip"in. Ended up adding a small zip-tie around the shaft to add some resistance from it sliding down. Also added a medium size tie above the black one. Have used it every day now on purpose to see if it'll fall. Going on 2 weeks with no issues.

Meant to add this info also.
Someone on here also mentioned using an internal washer as a solution. If the trusty zip-ties fail, that would be my next try. Pic robbed from McMaster-Carr.

    Zip ties for the win.
Any idea you know off the top of your head what sized screws go in the pivot-mount? Looks like one of mine is gone, will need to find a replacement.
Rumor on the street is that 10-32 x 3/4 worked for 2nd gen, but haven't found specifics on the 3rd gen yet.

I'll check for ya, but my first guess, is that it's gonna be Metric. Will confirm & update

Edit: If Google can be trusted.

The thread shapes and angles are the same. The M5 has pitch diameter of 4.48mm and pitch of 0.8mm. The 10-32 has pitch diameter of 4.31mm and pitch of 0.79mm.

Does that braided cable contain wiring for lights? Trying to see how difficult it would be to swap visors on my SR and there are very few pictures out there on this assembly. Thanks

Yes on the wiring. But there is a disconnetable plug right there with it. I was able to take the whole assy. off to work on it.

Injected molded plastics are everywhere on newer cars and trucks. Ever driven past a mild collision between two modern vehicles? The street is covered with broken plastic bits.

Awesome, thanks. Going to check if I have a wire up there. Found another thread that said no, but we'll see.

I have 5” tint along the top of the windshield that’s 5% so never use the sun shades anymore.

Don't know it for sure, but maybe the wire, up to the plug, is already there in the area above the visor mount.

I've had this issue as well... Maybe 3 months after buying my brand new truck the driver's side sun visor fell out at freeway speeds, thankfully the dealership replaced it no problem... Based on the year of the trucks on this post, I'm guessing they must have had a defective batch

IMG_4939.jpg IMG_4938.jpg I fixed this for 37 cents. I used a socket to press it down after a test fit in the hardware store. Whole project took under 5 minutes .

I used to have this happen in my last car, an Accord. I went through 3 or 4 of them in 10 years.

Really pretty dangerous to have this thing falling and dangling in your face when you are already dealing with the sun. I remember needing to use two hands (and my eyes) to get the thing back up while driving 75 on the highway.
