I have been looking at various trim levels on the Taco SR5 TRD Sport And Off Road. I liked the new Cavalry Blue. Test drove LWB Sport. Now the Diff prob?

The above is how a message board should not be. The more you know.

The reports I have read on this forum has put me off the Taco. Got a Highlander 08 model 130,000 mls and Test drove the TRD sport long bed. Has this vibration problem been sorted? Highlander has been great even towing boat with trailer 4000lbs. I just don't want to buy a truck with built in probs.

Some say it’s not a real issue. Test drive one, don’t overthink it. No diff problems here.

2008 tacomas had the same issues, just more complacent owners with less resources to complain with.

What model do you have and what yr is it. Maybe I'll lease one before purchasing a new one. I did try the TDR Sport They are offering SR5 for $280 per month. Thanks for letting me know.

The diff issue is with the OR and Pro (and Sport MT) only. The rest still have the old 8" rear that has been dead reliable for decades. They occasionally have issues but it's nowhere near as prevalent as the new 8.75" rear end hum.

Either way, Toyota will fix it at some point and all will be well. All the issues I have with this truck are fixable and it's still better than my family's experience with the Colorado, Silverado, and F150.

People also need to recognize that some gear whine is 100% normal in any truck. It's the higher pitched harmonics that come from the new rear end that are the source of issue. You'll never find a differential that is completely quiet, just vehicles with more sound deadening so you can't hear it.

Not sure exactly how the diff problem typically sounds, but my 18 Sport MT has a light drive train whine at 45-55mph. Not a big deal though... normal radio volume covers it up.

Yea mine has the slight drone sound around 55mph when idle. I barely notice it. I figure that this is a truck with a more rugged build to it so there will be some drivetrain noises.

My 09 wrx made way crazier noises than this for 6 years and never had an issue. Decelerating in 2nd gear sounded like the transmission was eating itself.
