I'm running a road pro I grabbed at a truck stop on my last trip. Plan on either ordering a 1/8 phono plug and using a Motorola I already have or ordering one of the Kenwood's and using one of them. I just needed something temporarily until I could order what I want because we suck and don't have anywhere around me to buy ham radio shit.

San me here. Despite the lds church including ham in a lot of their community emergency plans, there is a distinct lack of commo shops around here. There's one that dabbles in it, but still nothing like HRO when I go to see my parents in VA.

We have one up in Atlanta but I don’t head up that way very often. I’m about 100 miles away from them.

I need to learn to use the arps on my radios. I know all my yaesu’s have them.

Got the Yeasu FTM-400XDR removed from the truck. Nice radio, but not enough YSF repeaters around. None near me. And it doesn't work well with APRSDroid. Put the Kenwood TM-D710G in it. Works perfectly with APRSDroid. Full functionality. Tested sending and receiving messages and all good!

I'll put the Yaesu in the apartment as a base

@tex.proud Are you setup with the radio feeding the data to the tablet directly or with a separate TNC the tablet controls?

I have a Mobilinkd TNC2 connected to the Data port of the D710 using 2 cables from Mobilinkd, and Bluetooth to the tablet. The APRSDroid app controls the TNC via Bluetooth. It will only work with Android. Apple doesn't allow the protocol used.

Speaking of which , don't have to "forget" the mobilelinkd device every time you reconnect to it ? Even if it's been perviously connected , if I select it ,it won't tether.

Could very well be this POS phone. Never, ever ever get a google pixel . Such a high percentage have the most insane bugs. Example . My auto correct doesn't work. At all.

You don't have to re-connect the phone or tablet to it. Within the APRSAnroid app, just "Start Tracking", and it will connect. No need for the phone to do it.

Because I think it'll help. After already helping a few people find out where to get their licenses, and others who thought there were no other hams in the area, I figured I'd start a directory up. Whether it be for emergency reasons while wheeling, convenience for meeting up with out of staters, or to just ask for local help, this will be here

Advise from someone who got lazy. Don't stop studying, you are in the mode so just keep going and get extra while you are at it. I've been "studying" for extra for about a year now and I'm actually further from prepared than I was the day that I took general.

I'm hoping to get it before the new year. I've got my book and the app for the practice quiz. Once the white stuff starts flying it's indoor time for tying flies, and the soldering gun comes out for RC stuff and potentially radio projects now.
