Hi everyone I need some suggestions, I have the Cali raised Amber LED fog lights and they are constantly getting covered in snow I tried to use Rain-X plastic I can't use WD40 because it will eat away at the polycarbonate anyone have suggestions on how to keep this away from the light or anything to make sure that snow doesn't touch the lights or stick to them? I am almost to the point where I may have to get rid of them.

This is a common problem with LEDs. OEM LED applications will have a heated lens to prevent this from occurring. OEM halogens heat the lens from the filament. The flat conclaved face of a LED pod certainly makes things worse. I’d imagine you’d have better results with the bubbled curved surface of the Morimotos. But if you live somewhere that it snows regularly, aftermarket LEDs are not going to be a good lighting source due to icing.

Agreed @CaliRaisedLed you have any suggestions here? Not sure what to do and I don't want to get rid of them.

This isn’t an issue with their product, it is a drawback of using an aftermarket LED in cold weather vs an OEM heated LED.

Same thing happens when you put LEDs in your headlights. They freeze over and you cannot see anything.

I have the Morimotos and they're not that great (for melting snow) either.

Quick update so I am going to use a couple different products I have something called snow jet which is used as a polymer spray for snow blowers I am also going to try to use Pam as some have suggested here. We are going to be getting a large Storm soon and I will report back my findings shortly.

Also I want to give props out to at @CaliRaisedLed for responding to this thread and owning up to a small feature miss, I work in sales and I appreciate when someone can let me know that there may not be a fantastic solution for my issue. Mad props to Cali raised I will still support and purchase their products.

The BD Pods also do not have cut offs for street use. They should be considered off road use only or in situations where high beams are acceptable.

I know this is an older post, but icing is something I have always thought about as a challenge to LEDs for those in colder climates. However, there is a partial solution.

Check out these prototypes from Rigid linked below. Using an amber lens filters out the short wavelength (blue) light, and the Rigid LEDs put out a lot of light, and a lot of short wavelength (blue) light at 7400k color temp. Light is energy, and since energy cannot be created or destroyed, when it is filtered out it is transferred to heat. Meaning as the amber lens filters out the blue light, the lens gets hot. It takes a while for the lens to warm up by doing this, maybe 30+ minutes, so it won't melt the snow off the lens from being parked, but when running it should prevent icing. I've had the 'white' Rigid pods and the lens does not get hot.

This is the lens temp, not the body.

Lights are to be released in December with the same pricing as the white SAE fog pods.
