Are you sure you want to live anywhere near Baltimore City?

Baltimore has highest homicide rate of U.S. big cities

Just make damn sure you stay out of pioneer city and and meade village. Those places have really gone to shit. The rest of odenton isnt bad by any means, Piny Orchard is a pretty nice place, not sure on pricing there though.

I won’t be of much help unfortunately. I do work at ft Meade but I live way south, in silver spring. I don’t know anything about living up in the Baltimore area.

Some of my friends live in Baltimore, canton, fells, and federal hill are all relatively nicer areas to live in. That being said crime still happens there. I work at Meade, but I commute about an hour away from the pa line. Coworkers live in Columbia, crofton, glen burnie, Pasadena and they don't have complaints.

I work up there but live about an hour South in Huntingtown. Calvert County, where I live, is more of a family community where a lot of people commute to jobs outside of the county. It is spread out and still rural. If you want city living then look in the previously mentioned areas of Baltimore. Also look at Crofton, Gambrills, Millersville, Crownsville and Annapolis. All of these are relatively nice and have a wide range of rental or purchase prices.

I really appreciate all of that!
Im not too worried about crime other than getting my truck broken into. It's funny ive almost started thinking abut my truck like a kid trying to find the best place to be to make it happy lol
I need to set up my priorities and figure out what im looking for and be realistic with it and I appreciate all the help! It will probably come down to the Glen Burnie or Canton/Federal Hill/Charles Village area

I grew up in the city. Lived there most of my life. We work downtown. Personally, I would not recommend any area around JHU. Just too much crime and too much poverty. If you want to be around others your own age, farther south in Canton or Fells Point would be my choices. These areas are not free from crime either, but definitely better than JHU.

Do yourself a favor, look online at crime by area sites. You don't want to lock into a lease on a rental and then regret it.

There are some narrow one way streets in the city but you'll be fine. If your not use to parallel parking, start practicing. I hope you have sliders and steel bumpers. People in any part of the city do not care at all about your vehicle and you will be tapped and dinged without some protection.

Then there's the winter parking situation. You'll have an advantage. You wont have to clear a space to park. But others do, and they claim and protect them like a momma bear protects her cubs.

There's a lot of good in the city. You just have to be smart about finding it. I hope you have a alarm, and don't have anything out in the open. Like a CB or even evidence of something like a cell phone holder, change, laundry, etc.

Expect to pay close to $1k a month for your share too for a row house, with possibly some bizarre roommates. I work for an engineering firm and I've heard countless stories of young engineers doing just what your looking to do. Most only last that first year and regret it the entire time. You're better off finding an apartment complex outside the city and paying a little extra for your own place and two parking spaces.

I'm sounding like that guy but it's because I have the experience. Yes, you can get lucky, find the perfect place, perfect neighborhood, perfect roommates and never want to leave. I really hope you do. It will not be easy though.

Anyone know where to snag some cheapo TPMS sensors that will work well...or have any extras laying around they don't want? Dash lights make my OCD tick. :annoyed:

Define cheapo, also that are serviceable if you have a bad one. Most likely a dead battery.
Oh, for alloy or steel wheel? Sensors do not interchange.

Going in my TRD pro wheels that came off of a 4 runner. The OEM ones were taken out and put into a different set of wheels when the seller bought aftermarket wheels...only found this out after 1.5 hours at the dealership trying to program them to my truck.

My son rents the second floor of an old three floor victorian that was split up into three apartments. He is in Reservoir Hill on Mount Royal Terrace. It's an up and coming neighborhood near Mika University. There are a couple of nice blocks near Mika worth looking at

    Jerry,
Our company used to be on Mosher Street next to MICA, and I was there for nearly 23 years before we moved to the Inner Harbor. The student housing areas directly around it are nice. However, tell your son not to go north of North Avenue on foot for any reason. Hell don't go in a vehicle either at night. Or East across the bridge, or west too far. South, closer to the U of M campus is cool. There are armed guards at the Armory nearby that can offer assistance in a pinch. MLK and west, not good.

I would never try to influence any young person not to seek out their destiny and to do that by learning on their own, but they just need to learn how not to be victims. A lot of naive youngsters pay the price. I'm not saying your son is naive at all. Just trying to impart some wisdom.
