So I live in an insanely hot area with summer temps often well above 100, with very little cloud cover throughout most of the year, so I'm looking to get my windows tinted to either 30% or 20% (state's legal limit) and I'm wondering what the cost might be.

Go 20% you’re gonna look at it if you get 30 and like it but wish you went darker. You can see fine out of it when it’s night time too

Depends who you go with and what brand. Ceramic is supposed to keep the heat out pretty well. I would recommend tinting the front windshield as well

I use ceramic tint of my Tacoma and my wife’s 4Runner. My Tacoma came with it from the dealer but we put it on my wife’s 4Runner and it does keep it a bit cooler especially with direct sunlight on your face. An it is fade resistant. To do the whole 4Runner it was 385. Tacoma was around 400

For heat reasons, get the windshield done in about 80% as well. Mine is ceramic and it ran about $500 for the whole truck.

Tint = Opaqueness of the film
Film = the actual film on the window

Tint is color ONLY it does nothing to reject heat, block UV rays, prevent haze etc.

You need to shop for the specific film properties you want NOT the color. The color of your film will have nothing to do with the heat in your car.

You can spend between $300 to $2,000 on films for a whole Tacoma. There are some incredible products on the market now that will cost a ton of money (but well worth it for luxury and collector vehicles).

If you want heat rejection properties you need to look for a ceramic heat rejection tint. These tints come in clear (will add no additional darkness) all the way to 90-95%.

I have this type of film. It is worth every single penny... however you need to put the film on every single window in the truck to include the windshield or you will not get the advantages.
The windshield is the most important one to do.

I have installed black leather seats in my truck and my leather never gets hot. I could park my truck in the direct sun for hours and while the truck does get very warm, my A/C can take care of it in 5 minutes wheras normally it could take 30 minutes to feel cooler in a normal vehicle.

My truck was $450 to tint everything. I have a near clear film on the windshield so its a tad darker but you may be able to find a shop with a clear film so it stays legal.
My advice is to look at the shops in the ritzy part of town, they typically have the most selection in film types. Plus I want my films applied by the same guy who tints Lamborghini Aventadors worth more than my house lol.

I spend a lot of time in my truck and do a lot of road trips. I want protection against skin cancer as well as heat rejection. I also have sensitive eyes and the films really cut back on glare and sunlight.
I think every dime I spent was worth it.

But you want to look at film type, not darkness.
A 95% regular film will be nothing like a clear ceramic heat rejection film.

I paid $500 for a mobile installer to come lay some film on the truck while I was at work. Found the guy on Yelp, I was at first skeptical and nervous what I would come home to. This dude knocked it out of the park! I couldn’t be happier with his work, if your in the San Diego area and would like some solid work done I will look up this guys info for you.

Yeah $500 is a bit much, however I had 18% on the 5 windows and 70% on the windshield put on and man does it look great, keeps interior temps down, and gives a great amount of privacy!

depends on the brand of film. Personally I wouldn't pay more than $50 per window
