I know this probably belongs in a different section, but the towing section doesn't seem to get much attention and I'm more concerned about the max weight I can tow with one of these trailers.

I'm looking into the idea of fabricating a RTT trailer and have considered using a military trailer with a bed rack welded in to it. Obviously these are pretty heavy and might exceed the towing capacity of our trucks after they're weighted down with RTT and gear.

I've also considered finding an old truck bed trailer, but those are harder and harder to come by in good condition.

This is the lightest military trailer I've found so far.

Looks like 1460 lbs. for the weight if I'm reading it right.
RTT is about 200 lbs. and I'd say an average of another 150 lbs. max for gear and rack.

    Any suggestions?

That mil trailer is pretty damn wide. My popup trailer was 85" wide, and that thing was a beast on the road... I wouldn't want to drag that around in the trees, let alone something wider.

I would stick to trying to find a wrecked pickup truck bed (extra points if it's from a Tacoma, lol) and converting it. You could part out the parts you don't need (like the differential), maybe even trade someone who has a busted diff (as long as the one you get is good).

For military trailers you want a M100 or a M416 and put a rack on it to mount your RTT. Much better size for offroad trailering.

I'd also keep an eye in the classifieds here, trailers come up for sale and you can get some ideas.
