Has anyone ever figured out what wattage the qi charger is (specificly 2018)? Is it 5, 10, 15 watts? Yes, I've searched but never found a definitive answer.

I'm thinking about a new phone and just wondering how useful qi as implemented by Toyota actually is and if it should impact my decision.

I've attached a photo I found in another thread but not sure what model year it is from and if it is still relevant.

I have had my 2016 since late 2015 and just got an iPhone X, it charges much slower than just plugging it in the usb, but with Bluetooth it it is a nice spot to place your phone and forget it till you get out. After two hour drive last night it was almost fully charged.

It's handy but hard to imagine that the charger or wattage would be a deciding factor. My iPhone 8 will charge up anywhere I place it on the charger, some people have to position the phone in just the right spot, but I expect their phone case is the problem.

I have to find the 'sweet' spot for my Galaxy S7, but it charges quickly.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm looking at the new pixel (which limits charging to 5 watts), a samsung...or going to the dark side with a new iPhone. If it's only a 5 watt charger it wouldn't necessarily gimp the pixel but it would annoy me to know I could be charging at 10-15 watts but the pixel is holding me back.

Only used it once to test if it works with my iPhone... and it does, but charging does seem slower than USB. I have a ProClip dash mount for my phone so it's eye-level, I have shortcuts set for directions / google maps and since nav is far superior on my phone vs. entune, I have no interest in my phone laying down in a useless position for me. I do keep my iPhone on a Qi charge stand at work and have a couple of fast charging pads around the house and they work well but does seem to build up heat

I have a pixel 1 and put a wireless charging mat inside my case. When it charges, it just says charging.

My phone will say either charging slowly, charging, or charging fast depending on the wattage. So its not a fast charger, but its not a slow charger either.

jut did a little comparison on my drive to and from daycare pick up, FWIW
    Iphone x in airplane mode:
charging pad moved the % by 7% on the way
    same rout home
In dash USB connection with genuine apple lightning cord, move it an additional 16%

Ill test the Dual USB 4.8amp Blue Sea vs charging pad another day....

In another thread, someone was asking if the switch could be repurposed for some other function. I was thinking it would be nice if I could convert that switch for interior lights to light up the front, or even rear, floor mats?
