    Lol.

This sounds an awful lot like something I would do. I fixed this though, I lost my other key fob. Can't call the wife if you don't have an extra fob...

Thanks for the write up, the wiring directions it comes with are worthless. I tried youtube but the wiring didn't work. I'll give it another try with the connections you used OP.

That's where drone mobile comes in. Lock/unlock and engine start from my cell phone. Excellent mod.

This was an easy and must install after i got a cover, imo. I too went thru the grommet under passenger side door. Seemed easier and more effective

This was one of the first mod I did on my Taco. Definitely worth the $86 bucks but I agree it should have come factory from Toyota. Only bad thing I hate is that its so damn LOUD.

I just went into the settings and turned the auto relock timer off.

I have a manual trans, so I don't have the keyfob/sensor issue. what's the range on the key fob? doesn't the signal reach if the fob's in the truck bed?

I just did this today. Fun and easy to do. The only trick was a) making sure we had actually plugged in the two wire sets (the long one that runs under the truck and the short one that runs into the tailgate) before testing, and b) making sure we had wired into the right set of wires.

Thanks for this. Glad that you pointed out the difference in the wiring taps from the Tundra.

I just did this today as bed security was important to me. I didn’t drill through the plastic loom holders, I removed them, and enlarged the standard hole to accept the additional wires. I also didn’t jam a screwdriver through the body plug under the passenger seat, I disassembled the tape and loom passed the wires through and put the loom to plug connection back together.

All that to say, I see that it could be done in an hour but my ocd wouldn’t yield.

I also added sound deadening to the tail gate, which also added time.

I enjoyed doing it, and would recommend it to anyone looking for bed security.

I will say that the sound deadening material helped, however because the servo has to have slack between itself and the lock mechanism to allow manual operation, most of the noise is the servo physically smacking the hell out of the lock from a decent resting distance.

Chris1261, thank you for your write up. I didn't use the pop n lock kit but your wiring code for the access cab was perfect and the same on the 2018.

Slightly off topic, but is there a solution like this for a bed cap? Not the tailgate itself. I have the ARE Overland cap, and it's manual lock only. I'm looking for an aftermarket solution to automate locking for the CAP.

This is the actuator I used.. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0088YE6YQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you are able to attach it to your cap then the wiring setup would be the same.

Any chance you can (or did) a step by step write up? This is tops on my mod lists to dos. I've been holding out on a pop and lock for a tailgate until I could find a similar mod for the cap, which this appears to be! I'm kind of a mechanical dunce, but I can follow directions.

I installed it on my tailgate but I would guess it would work on a cap.

Anyone know the part number for the wire loom clip in the tailgate? I broke mine real good when drilling a new hole in it. My OCD say buy a new one.

    Thanks!

Just purchased this kit. Instead of running the wires all the way down the passenger side to tap into power, I assume I can just tap into my SnugTop auto lock. With that said, does anybody know what wires to connect to?

I just tried to install my pop and lock on my 2006 tacoma 2dr access cab and the instructions said to splice into the blue and the blue with a white stripe wire... I did that and then all I got was a clicking in my passenger door speakers. Waiting for tech support to get back to me. Anyone able to help??
