    I went to Discount Tire and had new tires installed and asked for my old ones back. Did they damage my tires beyond use? I had intended to put these stock tires to use else ware, not sure if its safe to use anymore.

    I went back and asked them. They said it was normal for that to happen when removing the tire. They didn't see any thing wrong with them. Thoughts?

    How were you going to use them elsewhere?

    Best way to tell is if you were going to mount to a new wheel take it to them to mount on the new wheels. If they won’t because of liability then you know.

    The tire can get damaged from breaking the bead seal.

    I've seen lots of tires do that on old style tire machines. If the tire is old and the rubber is starting to get hard it's very difficult to not do that with an old style tire machine. I haven't ran the newer machines enough to know how easy it is to rip a bead like that.

    I dont know if its normal, but every winter for the past 5 years ive gotten winter tires put on wheels in the fall and all seasons put on those wheels in spring and my mechanic has never done that to any of my tires.

    I'll have to take another picture of one of the tires because it looks like some of the cords show from the damage.
    Honestly I'd like to see them get reused somewhere since they only have less than 7k miles on them. If I had no use for them I could have given them to one of my friends.
    Now it looks like I'll have to scrap them.

    Dude they look fine .
    The most important part of the fleshy rubber that got striped off is to help create a seal to help push tire up on to beads when trying to seat them.
    Those cords are not hurt.the rubber on the other side of cords is more important. From pics they look fine stop worrying. Now if rubber that did get ripped away extended past cords then they just wouldn’t hold air.

    @Littlemule1 Thanks for the insight.

    I wanted to make sure the full story got told. Today I spoke with the Manager at Discount Tire and he offered to buy back the OEM tires. I am very happy with the customer service they provided me.
